The Summary of the project is that with the expansion popular for control the world is managing power emergencies. The system which we design can lessen the power bills to a huge degree and will prove beneficial for the users. The efficient energy management at home provides expanded mindfulness between customers on their utilization designs and successful utilization of their home apparatuses. We have presented a prototype implementation for electricity monitoring and billing system using the internet of things protocols (IoT), MQTT and COAP.  The power factor calculation is done in the microcontroller using the zero-crossing method. The controller is interfaced with the Node Mcu which will receive all data from the controller through serial communication and send this data to the internet. The internet bits can be gotten to, observed and controlled continuously from a remote area utilizing the Constrained Application Layer Protocol (COAP).

Project Objectives

The objective of the project are as follows:

1) After the completion of the project, we can measure the Current of any load.

2) After the completion of the project, we can measure the Voltage of any load.

3) After the completion of the project, we can measure the Power of any load.

4) After the completion of the project, we can measure the units consumed by each load.

5) After the completion of the project, we can calculate the bill of the units consumed.

6) After the completion of the project, we can monitor the electricity and billing system through iot.

Project Implementation Method

This area depicts how the different functionalities of the entire framework is customized. The framework utilizes two principle programming codes, one for the outskirt switch associated with the controller and the other for the end hubs running COAP.

Smart Meters by continuously monitoring and sending feedback of data to the customers. We will have an Android Application that is connected to the electric meter. At the time of installation of the device, the staff will generate a unique identification number for a device. Staff will then embedded this number into the device and will also create a user account for the customer containing customer name, email, mobile number, and address. The newly created device and the user will be linked together. After the successful installation of device and verification of the user details, the customer will be provided with a password for checking the status of their device with the help of the email provided by the customer. Now the device is ready to be used. User needs to recharge this device from a web app designed for this device in order to continue the supply of electricity. If the balance of this device becomes zero, this will stop the supply of the electricity after 24 hours, within that 24-hour user will get notification regarding balance status of the meter after a definite interval until he pays the bill.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits of the project is that we can measure the current, voltage, power, units of load and billing of the units consumed by each load. Moreover, we can monitor our electricity through the iot (internet of things).

Reduce energy spending Keep a check on number of units used by each device and plot an optimization strategy to minimize the daily usage. Enables user in real time tracking of watts to calculate proximate electricity bill for a month based on current usage. Gives details of daily, weekly and monthly power consumption to compare time period of maximum usage. Highlights insights of increase or decrease in overall power consumption to let user know how good is the formulated strategy of power consumption in terms of energy saving. Graphical representation of Watts consumed by devices presents a clear picture to an individual on power consumption. Identifying abnormal pattern in energy consumption makes it easier for user to find out malfunctioning in appliance. Get details about individual device or appliance’s power consumption and calculated bill costs. IoT smart energy monitoring system calculates the projected billing amount based on your billing cycle. This is based on your usage pattern till date and estimated bill if you continue the same pattern. Allows setting usage limit as per your target and sends out notification once threshold is reached. This alerts you of increased power consumption.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Internet services and mobiles have become an inextricable part of daily life, enabling communication and the management of information from anywhere and at any time. This development in the area of the internet (IOT) has eased the lives of human beings reducing their effort. One such system is designed which reduces the human effort to a greater extent. Develop an online interface to monitor single-phase AC current load status, peak energy consumption alerts at various slabs, calculating units consumed and billing.
