IOT BASED UNDER GROUND AND OVER HEAD CABLE FAULT DETECTION SYSTEM
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryPower cables that are used to deliver electrical power are placed either overhead or underground (in order to avoid unnecessary interference). This makes it very difficult to determine the exact location of the faults that occur. The objective of this project is to demonstrate a self-made hardware model that determines the distance of the cable fault from the base station in kilometers and display it over the internet. Underground power cable system is a common practice followed in major urban areas and the overhead power cables are commonly used in rural areas.
Many time faults occur due to construction works and other reasons. At that time it is difficult to search for the exact damaged overhead cable OR dig out the underground cable due to not knowing the exact location of the cable fault.
Project Objectives- To detect accurate fault location and distance from source station as well as to check it over google map.
- To detect the exact faulty cable in a number of cables
- To reduced human effort
- To save time and provide faster maintenance
- To make the system usable for both underground and overhead cables fault detection
This display of underground and overhead cable fault distance over internet system (google map) works on the principle of scanning or multiplexed relays. These relays are configured with respect to the distance such as some 1, 2 or 3 in kilo meters. Here for the demonstration purposes we have used different cables and then configure them in kilo meters’ distance. When the fault is occurred or we open circuit any cable through the connected switch then this fault is sense by the arduino uno. Then arduino unor gives the logic signal to the relay driver IC then this relay driver IC switched on multiplexed relays. Then by switched on the cross ponding multiplexed relay, the configured led starts blinking showing the exact faulty line among a number of lines and the arduino uno also tells the fault distance because these relays are configured with respect to the distance. During this, the arduino uno displays this data or distance reading at LCD display and also sends this data or distance reading to the WiFi module. Then this data or distance reading is sent to the mobile or PC connected to the WiFi module showing the exact faulty cable, distance and the google map address. The exact distance from the source station and exact fault location can be practically seen over the google map.
Benefits of the Project- This display of underground overhead cable fault distance over internet system, could be used in underground and overhead transmission system for tracing the exact fault location and distance.
- This system is more compact and reliable as compared to the other systems.
- By using this system, the user or supply company can easily know about the fault location and distance at their work place through the dedicated website
- By using this system, the user or supply company can save their precious time.
- By using this system, the user or supply company can reduce their tracing expansive.
- By using this system, there is less software requirements.
This projrct will work to identify the fault location and will upload the Data on the internet web page (IOT).This project works on ohm's law i.e. whenever there is a short circuit occured in the cable, the voltage varies in the cable depending upon the location of fault. This variable voltage is then fed into arduino to calculate and show the results on LCD display and to upload the results on the web page.
