IOT based Streetlight Monitoring System
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryMost of the places have an automatic streetlight which can sense the daytime and nighttime, and automatically turns on and off according to the night and day. Here we are extending this project by adding one more constraint to turn on the light that is Streetlight will only glow if there is darkness and someone is passing through the street. We also measure the battery voltage if the voltage in the circuit and shows on the screen if the voltages are low it the responsible person troubleshoot the problem. We will count the total number of vehicle’s the passes away on the specific road or parked at parking area. Furthermore, we also add the feature in which the system detects the fire nearby and generate the alert notification using alarm.
Project Objectives| The main objective of this project is to reduce the power consumption by glowing the Streetlight only when it is needed. It will also detect the fire in surroundings and alert the system. |
The main objective of this project is to reduce the power consumption by glowing the Streetlight only when it is needed. It will also detect the fire in surroundings and alert the system.
Project Implementation MethodIn this project we are demonstrating the prototype of the Smart Streetlight with 3 IR sensors, 1 LDR sensor and 3 LEDs - each representing one streetlight. We will also update the LDR sensor data to the Thing Speak and control the LEDs (Streetlights) over the internet from anywhere in the world. We used an IR sensor to count the total number of vehicle that passes Or park in the parking area. Furthermore, we used Arduino models to measure the battery life of the specific patch of the streetlights. We also add used flame sensor to detect the fire on surrounds in the parking area if it detects the fire it alerts the system through notification.
Benefits of the Project- Remotely monitored with Controlled Access.
- This has zero manual intervention and thus conserves energy
- Low dependency on manual labor
- Weather and natural lighting are used as input parameter
- Count the total numbers of vehicles at the specific area
- Alert the system when detects the fire.
On connecting all the components, in the presence of ambient light from the tube light, the bulb remained off. However, as soon as the tube light was switched off, the LDR sensor detected the absence of light leading to the switching on of the connected bulb using the Arduino UNO board and internet via Wi-Fi. The system is used to count the total number of vehicles through the sensor also measured the battery health of the lights if the and show the voltage of the circuit on the screen if the voltages are low the responsible person will check the fault in the battery and repair it. Another feature of this system is to detect the fire on surroundings it there is any fire it detects it using flame sensor and send the notification to the system. This infers the successful working of an automated street lighting system.
