IOT Based Smart Plant Monitoring and Growth Analysis System for Different Soil Conditions
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryPeople with old ages and those who have busy schedule cannot monitor plants properly. With the increase in technological advancement, solution to this problem is that we purposed an IoT Based Smart Plant Monitoring System. The focus of this project is to grow and monitor the plants in home environment. In this project different sensors like; temperature humidity sensor(DHT), light intensity sensor, PH sensor and soil moisture sensor will be used to measure the PH value, weather conditions, amount of light and moisture in the system. In this project we will also monitor plants on different soil conditions like: we take four rose plants one will be tested on original fertilizers. In second plant we will add salt in the soil. In third one alkaline material will be added and the fourth one will be soil with urea. After that we will monitor and analyze the results, in which soil condition plant grows properly. . One node will measure the condition of indoor plants. The hardware architecture consists of three major parts: monitoring, sensing and controlling. In terms of sensing, we measure temperature and humidity, light intensity, PH value and soil moisture which are common features considered for plant growing process. The measured data from the sensors will be sent to the cloud (Ubidots /ThingsPeak) and stored in a database so that data management software can analyze the data and give recommendation to the user of the system. According to which user can take decisions.
Project Objectives- To monitor the growth of plant in different seasons/conditions.
- To test the soil with the help of PH sensor, DTH sensor, Light intensity sensor and soil moisture sensor.
- To monitor the growth of plant with different soil conditions.
- GPRS module is used which give notification by collecting data from above sensors through Arduino.
- The data of different sensors sent to cloud (Ubidots /Thingspeak).
Figure : 1 shows the project cycle, in this project the data is collected from plants through different sensors that data will sent to cloud by using Arduino and GSM module. GSM module send notifications to our android phone. After getting notification user can make decision according to his convenience.

- This project provide an automatic plant monitoring system thereby saving time, money & power.
- Soil moisture sensor allow for water use only when and where needed.
- The production levels can be visualize, soil moisture, sunlight intensity and more in real time and remotely to accelerate decision making process.
- Automating processes in planting, treatment can reduce resource consumption, human error and overall cost.
- Analyzing production quality and results in correlation to treatment can teach us to adjust processes to increase quality of the product.
- This project reduce the complexity of supervision and to avoid the continuous monitoring of plants.
This project consist of 5 nodes from which 1 will be master node and rest all are slave nodes. 1st node will measure normal soil conditions of normal plants. 2nd node will measure the conditions of plant in which salt is added to soil. 3rd node will measure the conditions of plant in which alkaline material is added to soil. 4th node will measure the conditions of plant in which urea is added to soil. And 5th node will measure the conditions of indoor plant. After that we will monitor and analyze the results, in which soil condition plant grows properly.
