These helmets are rapidly gaining popularity among bicyclists and motorcyclists for enhanced security, safety, and comfort.A smart helmet is a type of protective headgear used by the rider which makes bike driving safer than before.
The main purpose of this helmet is to provide safety for the rider. This can be implemented by using advanced features like alcohol detection, accident identification, location tracking, use as a hands free device, fall detection. In case of an accident it will send a message through GSM along with location with the help of GPS module to the registered numbers of relatives or friends. This ensures that the victims get proper and prompt medical attention, if he met with an accident.
The distinctive utility of project is the helmet is designed in a such way that it has an ultrasonic sensor which sense objects and turn on the camera which will record video for about few minutes, in case of accident a proof will be captured how the accident occur.
Project ObjectivesThe main objectives of the project are as follow:
- To design an intelligent helmet that is capable preventing road accidents.
- It is capable of providing security and safety of the bikers against road accidents.
- The helmet is designed in a such way that it has an ultrasonic sensor which sense objects and turn on the camera which will record video for about few minutes, in case of accident a proof will be captured how the accident would occur.
- The smart helmet will help to reduce the injuries to head and will inform a nearby hospital and alert relative with a message comprising of current location with the help of GPS system.
- To provide an android application which provide real time tracking and navigation.
- Solar panel will deal in battery low situations.
The proposed system mainly focuses on avoidance of drunken driving and restricts to wear helmet compulsory which results in Avoidance in accident and SMS will be sent in case of an accident. Now a days according to Government rules smart helmet will be hopefully in use like normal helmet.
The proposed system components include accident detection, recording of the accident, SMS carrying accident details, real-time tracking and solar panel in case of low battery. These all components are the backbone of this helmet known as “IOT based Smart Helmet for Accident Detection”.
Following are the sensors which contribute towards implementation method:
- GSM module: GSM module is required to send the rider’s information to the registered numbers.
- Mobile App: Android application is required to get the live navigation and tracking.
- Ultra-Sonic Sensor: Ultra-Sonic sensor will sense the nearby object and turn on the camera for recording
- Pressure Sensor: Pressure Sensor will detect falling of helmet to detect accident.
- Solar Panel: Solar Panel will provide power in case low battery.
- Proximity Sensor: it make sure rider has wear the helmet otherwise igntion will not start.
- Alcohol sensor: It will confirm whether rider is drunked or not.
- It will be used by bikers or cyclists while driving bikes and cycles.
- It will be helpful in navigation and show the current location of the rider.
- It will also useful for the police personnel, industrial workers etc.
- Camera recordings will help in the investigation of accidents and help to find the real culprit.
- In case of accidents an alert message will be delivered to all the registered numbers to inform family or relatives about the accident with the current location of the accident.
- Drunked driver won't be able ride the bike because ignition will not start.
Smart Helmet unit consist of Microcontroller, Ultra Sonic sensor, Pressure sensor, Camera, Solar Panel, Buzzer, GSM modem, GPS modem, Bluetooth sensor, Alcohol sensor, Power supply. The whole system is controlled by Microcontroller unit. Different functions are controlled by using sensors. The Microcontroller is placed in the helmet unit. The inputs from different sensors are given to Microcontroller unit and which is analyzed by the Microcontroller.
This proposed system will give us following outputs:
- Rider’s exact position will be sent in case of an accident.
- Rider can use app to get real time navigation.
- Camera will record the accident footage.
- Solar panel will be used to charge the battery in case of battery low.
- Rider’s head will be ultimately safe.
- Bluetooth sensor will allow to pair with mobile.
- Buzzer will beep if fall is detected.
- Small speakers will alow him to receive calls.
