A smart meter is the next generation of an electricity meter. They're being installed by energy
suppliers in every home. Smart meters come with an in-home display screen that shows you
exactly how much energy you're using in rupees. Sending details to consumers or utility
company through SMS using GSM network by the microcontroller is the distinct feature of this
project.

It is a system which is designed to eliminate human involvement in the electricity system. IOT is
the combination of things with electronic software, sensors and connected through internet to
enable things to collect and exchange data. IOT based smart meter read the data automatically
and transform the data to server for billing process. The Wi-Fi module connected to meter collect
the data and display data on the LCD by which we can read and understand the things that are
going on the system. Current drawn also calculated by current transformer that is connected in
series with the load will be shown on the LCD. Data is received by the internet and whenever a
key is pressed microcontroller send SMS through the internet to the consumer to get the reading
of the meter. It is difficult to take reading manually and calculating bill for individual home. This
way smart energy meter will help for the proper and accurate reading of billing process.

Project Objectives

OBJECTIVE
The present system of energy metering as well as billing in Pakistan uses electromechanical and
somewhere digital energy meter. It consumes more time and labor. One of the prime reasons is
the traditional billing system which is inaccurate. Many times slow, costly, and lack in
flexibility as well as reliability. Today accuracy in electricity billing is highly recommended.
The smart energy meter gives real power consumption as well as accurate billing. It provides real
time monitoring of electricity uses it is less time consuming and cost effective.

We can observe load consumption of consumer remotely.

The capability of temper detection.

We can control the load remotely.

Theft detects easily.

Project Implementation Method

We use Arduino IDE software in this project. Arduino consists of both a physical programmable
circuit board (often referred to as a microcontroller) and a piece of software, or IDE (Integrated
Development Environment) that runs on your computer, used to write and upload computer code
to the physical board.

Android application we use to monitor some parameters. Application we used TCP socket tracer
