IOT Based Patient Monitoring System
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryIn today's modern world, people are affected by various serious and complex diseases like heart problem, temperature, ECG, blood glucose level etc. So, people are continuously anxious about their health condition. They need to consult with doctors for checkup along with medical reports. To automate this process, Internet of Things (IOT) is a latest and fast growing technology and its features includes data acquisition, data transmission and data analytics to support smart solution especially for health care. The purpose of this project is to assist paramedic staff in general ward of hospital to monitor patient's health throughout the day. Data acquistion system consists of sensors and micro-controllers for collection and transmission of data to the cloud server. These sensors are attached on proper location of patient's body to measure heart beat, ECG, body temperature, blood glucose level, rooms humidity and oxygen level. The reports of above mentioned parameters are automatically send to the doctors. Paramedic staff can see these reports online and recomend medicines for curing of disease. As system is attached throughout the day with patient, paramedic staff can see the trends of these parameters for proper selection of medicine. Whenever the values of the parameters exceed the predefined range, our system will automatically send alert in form of e-mail and sms to the paramedic staff. This system is highly effective for the paramedic staff and the people leaving in urban and rural areas.
Project Objectives- To design a patient monitoring system with low cost and more efficient work.
- To facilitate paramedic staff and patient's in hospital.
- To reduce workload on the paramedic staff which increase their efficiency.
- To create an automated system by using which the paramedic staff can monitor patient's health and history at anytime from anywhere in the world.
The implementation methodolgy of this project starts with literature review related to patient's monitoring system.
- With the help of literature, sensor's are selected for measuring heart beat, ECG, body temperature, blood glucose level, rooms humidity and oxygen level.
- Next step is to interface these sensor's with micro-controller PIC16F877A to get the valve of above mentioned parameters.
- Simulation of electrical circuitry will be designed on software (protues) along the programming.
- The touch LCD display will be attached with our system for any manual entry, which is connected with micro-controller.
- WIFI module is interfaced with micro-controller for transmission of sensor's parameters to the cloud server.
Then, we will configure cloud server on which all the data is transmitted and saved. Our cloud server requirement are as follows:
- To save all the data which is coming from the micro-controller.
- To check all the values and compare it with the given predefined ranges.
- If any case, coming values gets below or after the predefined ranges then the cloud server automatically send alerts the paramedic staff and also blink the alert light or buzzer on our hardware.
- It can reduce pressure on the already overwhelmed hospital staff.
- It is easy for paramedic taff to get updated with the patients’ health at any time.
- Paramedic staff can continuously monitor the patient’s condition on his smart phone.
- The patient history will be stored on the web server and doctor can access the information whenever needed from anywhere at anytime.
- The whole system can save a lot of lives by consuming less time and to go in lines.
- It also reduces valuable time for paramedic staff.
