IoT BASED MPPT AND SUN TRACKING PHOTOVOLTIC SYSTEM
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummarySolar energy is a very large, inexhaustible source of energy. The Renewable Energy as a source is focused to bring the awareness towards the Green Energy System which provides the pollution free environment. Also it has no heavy mechanical section and is free from noise. The power from the sun intercepted by the earth is approximately 1.8X1011MW, which is many thousands of times larger than the present consumption rate on the earth of all commercial energy sources. Solar tracking system which can be used as power generating method from sunlight. This method of power generation is simple and is taken from natural resource. This needs only maximum sunlight to generate power. This project presents for power generation and sensor based solar tracking system to utilize the maximum solar energy through solar panel by setting the equipment to get maximum sunlight automatically. This proposed system is tracking for maximum intensity of light. Maximum power point tracking is an electronic circuit irrespective of the intensity of light it urges to extract the maximum rated power out of the Solar panel . The proposed method is to design an electronic circuit to sense the intensity of light and control the DC motor driver for the panel movement, and construct a Buck-Boost converter for to step up and step-down the voltage, and store the maximum utilized output voltage in Lead-Acid Battery
Project ObjectivesThe aim of the project is to maximize solar energy conversion and utilization through Solar Panel.
For this a IoT based automatic sun tracking system and MPPT circuit is being proposed.
Project Implementation MethodThe project is implemented on both software and hardware. the prototype has a mechanical part and electronic circuit.
Continuous solar tracking refers to the process of maneuvering a photovoltaic panel, solar concentrator or optic reflector with an associated power generating payload in such a way that the reflector follows and lock’s onto the course trajectory of the sun’s movement throughout the full day-time cycle.
Based on the advantages and implementation, we will use Perturb & Observe (P&O) Method for Maximum Power Point Tracking. This method continuously fine-tunes perturbs the output voltage, and samples observes the output power of a PV-system continuously.

The aim of the project is to utilize maximum solar energy through solar panel. It is well known that various types of methods is used for generating the electricity like Thermal Power plants (Nuclear, Coal, petroleum etc.), Hydro (water) power plants, but it is non-renewable resources and also harmful for humans as well as environment. As many types of other charge controllers like PWM etc. also available, but due to low efficiency it cannot be used completely by the consumers. Hence there is need to develop more other cheap and effective MPPT algorithms, so that almost 100% efficiency can be achieved.
Our project has the potential to attarct the crowd towards the renewable resources and increase the investment in renewable energy.
More and more use of renewable resources can end the energy crisis.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe Final Deliverable product is an efficient Solar energy extraction system that has a electronic and mechanical structure that increase the efficiency of normal PV panel. The system is connected to the mobile App which is used to observe and monitor the working conditions.
