Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryInternet of Things is an area of technological evolution that is inspiring firms, enterprises, and people to automate their businesses. Automation can be seen from daily household works to automated smart homes and even nowadays in form of smart cities. There is a rapid increase in the number of housing societies in Pakistan. These societies are committed to providing better facilities and lifestyle to their residents.
The idea behind the project is how real estate businesses can automate housing society based on IoT and Networking architecture. In the project, which is simulation-based and being simulated in Cisco Packet Tracer (Cisco Networking Simulation Tool), we will develop a hybrid topology of IoT and networking devices that will centralize control of all housing society's assets in the control center of the housing society.
Besides centralization of society assets (cameras, street lights, etc.) control, the project includes key features:
- Smart parking at all places in society
- Digital electric bill
- Fire auto-notification
- Solar power station control using IoT devices
- Smart water management and many more.
The crux of the Idea is to provide ease for society management so that they can deliver facilities smartly and timely and improve the lifestyle of residents of that society.
Project ObjectivesProject Objectives:
- Like smart homes and cities, automation of facilities that housing societies provide to their residents.
- Develop a hybrid networking and IoT devices topology for the Housing Society in which IoT devices sense, analyze, and respond to data collected and transferred over the network.
- Society Assets Control Centralization so, that society management can control all assets like cameras, street lights, water motors, solar power batteries status, and many others sitting in the main control center of society.
- Improve Living Style of Housing Society's residents through features like smart electric bills, fire auto notification, smart parking, society portal for utilities
Currently as fyp project is being simulated in simulation tool due to lack of resources.
Implementation methodology includes following steps: -
- Network Topology Structure Building for Society
- Configuration of Routers, Switches, IoT and other Devices
- Logic Development (Py or JS) and Activation of Sensors and Actuators
- Implementation of Security and other protocols to Limit access of Devices and to provide relevant services
- Simulation of Project in Cisco Packet Tracer

The project is being simulated in Cisco Packet Tracer and the final deliverable will be a simulated environment in which a hybrid topology of IoT and networking devices will be implemented. To present the project as fyp, a prototype will be designed in which a network of MCU boards, sensors, actuators, and mini-network devices will be working to give an overview of working in simulation.
