Project Summary

Our project is basically combination of two different projects:

  • IOT Based Patient Monitoring System.
  • Smart Wheelchair (Joystick, Voice and App Controlled).

We combined IoT based Health monitoring system with smart wheel chair in order to facilitate the handicapped and elderly people. In this project, we measured real time-based body parameters like ECG, heartbeat, Respiratory rate, Oxygen level in blood and temperature etc. The data is sent to the doctor through IOT and in case of any emergency doctor will be alerted through Nod Red app through a Gmail alert. So, doctor can prescribe medicine accordingly through IOT and Gmail both to caretaker of patient. In case of a critical situation the doctor can be alerted and an ambulance can be sent to save the patient as this system implemented in Hospitals. Which will eventually decrease chances of miss-happening and allows the victim to live a freer life.

 In smart wheelchair we controlled it smartly through Joystick, voice and app. Our project is not limited to only one-person voice anyone can controlled wheelchair within 10m range.

Project Objectives

With an improvement in technology and miniaturization of sensors, there have been attempts to utilize the new technology in various areas to improve the quality of human life. One main area of research that has seen an adoption of the technology is the healthcare sector. The people in need of healthcare services find it very expensive this is particularly true in developing countries. As a result, this project is an attempt to solve a healthcare problem currently society is facing.

The main objective of the project is to design a remote healthcare system. It’s comprised of three main parts. The first part being, detection of patient’s vitals using sensors, second for sending data to cloud storage and the last part was providing the detected data for remote viewing. Remote viewing of the data enables a doctor or guardian to monitor a patient’s health progress away from hospital premises. The Internet of Things (IoT) concepts have been widely used to interconnect the available medical resources and offer smart, reliable, and effective healthcare service to the patients.

Also, we will equip our system on a smart wheel chair whose movements will be controlled smartly by joystick, voice and remote controlled. With voice command it is not limited to only one person to give command to control chair but anyone can control wheelchair remotely and with voice 10m distance from patient. So, our project helpful for disabled persons as smart wheelchair useful for stroke attack people to move from one place to other in house and to monitor their health parameters continuously our project very benefit.

Benefits of the Project

Benefits of wheelchair:

Some senior citizens come to a point in their life when they realize they may need help walking. Assistance can be due to old injuries flaring up, arthritis, hip problems, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and many other issues. While the realization that you need help to walk may be a difficult fact to accept, but there is a bright side to the situation. There are many benefits that wheelchairs provide to senior citizens.

Benefits of health monitoring system:

Lower costs. Using IoT solutions and connected medical devices allows healthcare providers to monitor patients n ECG, Heart Rate, respiratory rate Oxygen Level in blood and body temperature in real time. This means less unnecessary visits to doctor, and less hospital stays and readmissions thanks to efficient data collection and management. Real-time monitoring via connected devices can save lives in event of a medical emergency like heart failure, diabetes, asthma attacks, etc. Vast amount of data that a healthcare device sends in a very short time owing to their real-time application is hard to store and manage if the access to cloud is unavailable. Even for healthcare providers to acquire data originating from multiple devices and sources and analyze it manually is a tough bet. IoT devices can collect, report and analyses the data in real-time and cut the need to store the raw data. On-time alert is critical in event of life-threatening circumstances. Medical IoT devices gather vital data and transfer that data to doctors for real time tracking.while dropping notifications to people about critical parts via mobile apps and other linked devices. Reports and alerts give a firm opinion about a patient’s condition, irrespective of place and time. It also helps make well-versed decisions and provide on-time treatment. Thus, IoT enables real-time alerting, tracking, and monitoring, which permits hands-on treatments, better accuracy, apt intervention by doctors and improve complete patient care delivery results. In event of an emergency, patients can contact a doctor who is many kilometers away with a smart mobile app.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our project consisted of wheelchair controlled by joystick,voice and remote controlled,and IOT based health care system which meaures the real time health paramaetrs of patient and doctor can viewed it through ibm watson platform.

                                                               

                                                                             

Wheelchair Technical Details:

We first of all bought simple wheelchair and then search for motors for our wheechair. We found wiper motors good for Wheelchair .After bought wiper motors we have to fixed these motor with some gear box on wheelchair and our model is shown below in figure.

                                             

Then we firstly drive wheelchair mootr with 4 channel relay to check motor working perfectly then we select ibt2 driver for controlling wheelchair movement.

Then we controlled wheelchair by joystick we performed different iterartions to work wheelchair perfectly with joystick. One of our project membor driving wheelchair in figure below
