Project Summary

Our project has following goals:
• Internet of Things (IOT) Based automation for smart buildings.
• Online data acquisition, monitoring and wireless control via internet.

  • In our project we are basically automating and remotely controling a room, in that which will include a fan with speed control, light with intensity control and door locking.
  • Notification can be sent to the user on mobile and through email like certain thing is on or off.
  • User can monitor the sensors' readings 
  • User can apply triggers for example;the user will create a trigger: if temp exceeds 28 degrees, switch on the fan! The system will automatically switch ON the the fan when temperature exceeds 28 degrees 
  • Scheduling of appliances can also be done by the user at any given time.
  • Likewise the intensity of light and the speed of the fan can also be controlled by the user.

Project Objectives

• Remote Monitoring and Control: The light, FAN, Door Lock will be controlled through a web page and by an application in mobile be it Android or an IOS operating system.
• Data Collection and Display: All the data will be collected of the things and will be displayed on the web page and on the app.
• Automation and Triggers: Conditions are applied to do a task.
• Scheduling: In this we can schedule our room to our liking. Example: At certain time the light should be ON.
• SMS and E-mail alerts: This will be sent to the user to notify about the tasks which has been completed.

Project Implementation Method

First of a web page was made for monitoring which will include all the features to control the room , then after that an application was made on both Android and IOS. Then a hardware was made where all the components were installed. Than the integration of components with Raspberry Pi and then interfacing the micro controller with web page and the applica- tion. At last we tested the project to further kill any errors for the best IoT solution. 

Benefits of the Project

  • Communication: IoT encourages the communication between devices
  • Automation and Control: Due to physical objects getting connected and controlled digitally and centrally with wireless infrastructure, there is a large amount of automation and control in the workings. Without human intervention, the machines are able to communicate with each other leading to faster and timely output.
  • Information: It is obvious that having more information helps making better decisions.
  • Monitor: The second most obvious advantage of IoT is monitoring. Knowing the exact quantity of supplies or the air quality in your home, can further provide more information that could not have previously been collected easily.
  • Time:As hinted in the previous examples, the amount of time saved because of IoT could be quite large. And in today’s modern life, we all could use more time.
  • Saves Money: The biggest advantage of IoT is saving money. If the price of the tagging and monitoring equipment is less than the amount of money saved, then the Internet of Things will be very widely adopted. Optimum utilization of energy and resources can be achieved by adopting this technology and keeping the devices under surveillance. We can be alerted in case of possible bottlenecks, breakdowns, and damages to the system. Hence, we can save money by using this technology.
  • Automation of daily tasks leads to better monitoring of devices: The IoT allows you to automate and control the tasks that are done on a daily basis, avoiding human intervention.
  • Efficient and Saves Time: 

    The machine-to-machine interaction provides better efficiency, hence; accurate results can be obtained fast. Instead of repeating the same tasks every day, it enables people to do other creative jobs.

  • Better Quality of Life: All the applications of this technology culminate in increased comfort, convenience, and better management, thereby improving the quality of life

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A box whcih contains all the hardware system(controllers, relays, converters, touch screen etc), appliances can be controlled via this box or website or applicartion.

Relays

  • NC: Normally closed 120-240V terminal
