In Pakistan construction is one of the major industries and this industry is growing day by day and wall painting is one of the key components of it, so the Wall painting Robot can bring evolution in the painting industry as it can be commercialized. The main objective of this project is to build a wall painting robot that will automate the painting process and will do the work fast and efficiently. As painting is a very tiresome and boring job because it requires a repeated work to be done so this robot will help in easing the job of painters, dangerous chemicals present in the paint can cause dangerous health diseases and respiratory problems as well, so this project will help in eliminating these health problems. This Robot has different components that combine to form a robot. So the sub-objectives includes making of a mobile base that will control the movement of the entire robot, making of the cascade lift assembly which will help in painting in vertical columns, Creating the control system of the robot which will enable the robot to work in a desired manner and lastly controlling the amount of paint that will be transferred to the rollers. So we will achieve these objectives by making the subsystems and then combine them. Firstly the mobile base will be made with the help of  Mecanum wheels because these special types of wheels are capable of any type of movement, for example, they can move sideways and can have 180 degrees of rotation as well and normal forward and backward movement are also available, As these types of movement are required for this robot so Mecanum wheels can be used. Accurate movement of the robot is required so for this purpose geared motors will be used with Mecanum wheels which will provide the high accuracy of being controlled. The cascade lift assembly will be made of aluminum on which rollers will be attached and DC motors will be used for the upward and downward motion of the lift with which painting will be done, this cascade assembly will be mounted on the mobile base of the robot. Arduino will be used as a microcontroller for this purpose and it will be programmed in such a manner that it will control the movement of the robot, actually, this robot will work on the feedback system, ultrasonic sensors will be mounted on the body of the robot which will provide the data of the hurdles (wall in this case) and according to the data the robot will be controlled and it will start painting And lastly at the end all the subsystems will be integrated to form a wall painting robot which will be capable of painting the walls automatically without any human required to operate it.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is the modernize the painting process by making a robot that would be commercialized. By modernization of the painting process, we would be able to reduce the health issues related to painting.

Project Implementation Method

The robot consists of cascade assembly which will allow the robot to paint in vertical columns, a paint roller is attached to the cascade assembly, DC motors are used to move the cascade lift vertically. A separate paint pump will be used to pump the paint within the perforated paint rollers, these paint rollers will be mounted on the cascaded lift which will provide vertical movement to paint one column of paint. The robot has a mobile base that helps in the movement of the robot, the cascade assembly is mounted on the mobile base. Two ultrasonic sensors are used which determines the position of the robot and with the help of data taken by ultrasonic sensors, the robot adjusts itself and then starts the painting process. The feedback from the ultrasonic sensor is then processed in the microcontroller and the action is taken accordingly. These different modules of the robot have been integrated to form a robot that paints automatically without any human effort.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Geared motors are used in the cascaded lift to which paint rollers are attached. These motors control the lift mechanism of the cascaded lift so that the rollers move up and down to paint one column of the paint.

The mobile base consists of Mecanum wheels are attached with the geared DC motors to which the Mecanum wheels are attached. A total of three ultrasonic sensors are used on the base, this will be used for placing a robot near the wall which is required to be painted.

A cascaded lift has a reachability of 7.5 feet. So our robot could paint up to a height of 7-5 from the floor.

A separate paint pump has been used to pump the paint in the perforated paint rollers which are attached to cascaded lift.
