In the Daily Life of a Metropolitan Citizen, one spends around 30 - 40 minutes in the queue created at the bill counter of the shopping malls and departmental stores. Also, once a queue is created at the bill counters, that area becomes very much crowded and if the situation on going is of any pandemic then such crowded areas are a severe threat to left there shopping in the malls and departmental stores. So, to overcome this issue of wastage of time and crowd at queues, we have proposed a project named as Intelligent Shopping Trolley Using Auto-Billing System. INTELLIGENT SHOPPING TROLLEY USING AUTOBILLING SYSTEM as described by its name is a project which intends to automate the present billing system used during the shopping in almost all the departmental stores and shopping malls of Pakistan.This project will allow users to create their bill on their own while shopping. After the completion of shopping they can also pay their bill using online payment methods without going to the counter and if one does not have any online payment methods than for them, they can pay the total cash of their bill at just one scan of trolley without standing in any queue.

Project Objectives

Intelligent Shopping Trolley, Using Auto-Billing System is trying to facilitate and solve the issues of time wastage during billing and waiting in long queues at the cash counter s of the departmental and super stores of Pakistan. This FYP idea is also highly useful in the current pandemic situation where social distancing is very necessary at every place so this FYP will help us to minimize the crowd which is accumulated at cash counters of the deprtmental and superstores.

Project Implementation Method

When a customer purchases a product he scans that product on an RFID reader (as explained in next section). The RFID micro controller fetches all the data and matches it with the data provided and if the data of the product scanned is matched with the existing data then the product name and price will be displayed on LCD and that product will be added to the bill. If the customer adds more than 1 item of same product he/she pressed the increment button on the display and pressed it as many times as many items he wanted to add. If a customer wanted to remove any item from the trolley he/she scans that product on RFID reader and pushes the decrement button which is also placed on the side of the LCD. In the proposed solution, for security purposes, we placed weight sensors in the trolley which match the weight of the product with the quantity added to the trolley. These sensors did not add any additional cost to the product. When a customer is done with shopping, he/she pressed the done button attached with the LCD and the total amount displayed on the LCD. The customer pays the bill at the counter and walks out of the supermarket in a good mood because he/she is done with shopping and he/she saves a lot of his time. These RFID tags scan the product in a fraction of seconds and reduce human labor and it is also beneficial for the owner of the supermarket.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits of the projects are as following:

1. This project will solve the issue of wastage of time of people at the billing counters. When they will use this trolley, the bill will be calculated automatically and they would not stand in long queues for the calculation of bills.

2. This project will minimize the crowd at billing counters. When users will use our project, they just have to pay the whole bill once within seconds and then they can leave the store or mall.

3. This project will allow users to pay the bill using online payment methods like JazzCash, EasyPaisa or Bank Transfer. The LCD attached at the trolley will show the QR Code for online payments. When users will scan the QR Code the online payment will be done and they will be allowed to go out.
