Project Summary

A smart mirror is a two-way mirror with an electronic display behind the glass. The display can show the viewer different kinds of information in the form of widgets, such as weather, time, date, and news updates. Smart Mirror aims at augmenting the basic reflective mirror with embedded intelligence to combine daily routine tasks like reading newspaper, getting stock updates, weather updates etc. and providing all that data to the user while he/she gets ready.

Project Objectives

  • Design an IoT based smart mirror using raspberry pi 4.
  • User friendly and time saving tool.
  • Interfacing and fetching the data from different social media platforms.
  • Customizing the smart mirror for efficient utilization of mirror and digital screen simultaneously.
  • Maximizing the visibility of data on mirror.

Project Implementation Method

  • The smart mirror consist of a USB microphone
  • Raspberry pi 4 board
  • Monitor display with two way glass mirror film.
  • Raspberry Pi display data on the screen.
  • Raspberry Pi gets the data from internet.

Benefits of the Project

In the morning it is an important time to prepare you in front of the mirror, which is often slow and time-consuming. This Smart Mirror is able to handle a variety of problems in doing business in the same time. Smart Mirror is a design based on the Raspberry Pi 4 that is equipped with high technology and innovative applications and is the latest design in place of the mirror that we use today.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Hardware Design:

  • Interconnection of digital screen and raspberry-pi and its integration with two way mirror
  • Integration of motion sensor with raspberry-pi

Software Design:

  • Development of screen distribution framework for smart mirror. 
  • Development of python script to fetch data from social media and other relevant platforms such as twitter, whatsApp, weather information etc.
  • Raspberry pi fetch and provide data to backend screen of smart mirror.
  • Development of motion sensing mechanism for effective power utilization using motion sensor.
  • Maximizing the visibility of data (Tentative: Contrast Management)
