DC-DC converter especially used under the area of Power Electronics. Having a proper module in the Lab of Power Electronics will help the students for the better understanding. This module possesses the three basic types of DC-DC converters namely, Buck Converter, Boost Converter and the Buck-Boost Converter. The Buck Converter will give the practical demonstration of stepping down the input voltage level. The Boost Converter, as name shows, will step up the input voltage level. And the Buck-Boost converter can step up and step down the voltage level with the help of a potentiometer. The readings will be taken from an 8 digit LCD.

Project Objectives

In University College of Engineering and Technology IUB, there was a need to take some steps in establishment of Power Electronics Lab. Because, the students have to go to Electronics Department to perform practical work. This deficiency, obviously, leave impacts on the studies. Hence, it was decided to make a proper DC-DC Converter Module (trainer) for Power Electronics Lab so that coming students can learn the practical work properly and without any difficulty. Having this trainer in the lab will be no less than a blessing. The trainer, we are working on will be simple and most importantly accurate, so that its lifetime can be increased. But, in order to meet this demand, standard and highly recommended equipments are supposed to be install on the module. But, sadly they are costly which is unaffordable. Also, precautionary measures will be taken so that trainer will be able to bear the voltage or current fluctuations (in any case). And to get the fault free output a feedback system will be set at the output of each converter.

In short, to make this module more reliable, accurate and long lasting a platform we are trying to make is getting out of range. This module for Power Electronics Lab is now in its way of becoming a reality,only thing that is in lacking is money.

Project Implementation Method

First and foremost, the simulation for the various converters were done on matlab.After getting desirable simulation results, the hunt for suitable components started. Firstly, the converters were made on pcb and were checked for their efficiency and working. Then, after that the most difficult task was implementing the converters in the trainer, for that we again made the circuits for each converters and with much hard work and failures in the road were able to successfuly finish the project.
