Project Title

Implementation of intelligent street lighting system

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

In developing countries most of the power which produced is consumed in lighting. Usually street lights are remained on in day time. The control over the street lights is most important to reduce power consumption. In our project, we are implementing an intelligent system that will minimize the power consumption. We will monitor the intensity of light by using light sensor and detect motion by using motion sensor. When the intensity of light falls below a specific level, light sensor sends the value of intensity to microcontroller. In case of no motion, microcontroller sends signal to relay to turn ON  30% lights. If motion is detected then microcontroller sends signal to relay to turn ON  100% lights. When the intensity is above our threshold value, lights will be automatically turned OFF. In cloudy weather, whenever the light intensity falls below the threshold value, 30% lights will be turned ON.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

Light sensor(Light dependent resistor GL5528) and motion sensor(passive infrared sensor) senses and give the analogue readings to the microcontroller. If intensity of light  falls below the threshold value, then output of  motion  sensor is checked, if motion not detected, microcontroller sends signal to relay 1 turning ON 30% of lights. If motion detected, microcontroller sends signal to relay 2 turning ON 100% of lights.
