Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryThe wide aspect of the project assigned, is to choreograph an anthropomorphic robot i.e. having human-like characteristics. The design is to be for teaching purposes, purely operational on ROS (Robot Operating System) allow its interaction with objects, tools and environment in a unique and more productive manner. Humanoid Teaching assistant will provide a new and attractive way for students provoking them to experience an entirely different mode of education. This will ascend the education system to a whole new and modernized mechanism.
This humanoid robot is not a bipedal robot rather it contains head and arms (but not the legs) instead it contains a base with wheels providing localization resulting in the capability of moving autonomously. The design is capacitive of up to performing 13 Degrees of Freedom D.O.F. The teaching assistant fully is capable of interacting physically, via vision and speech with the environment and with the audience. This project is a perfect conglomeration of Human and Robot as it develops a complete understanding of the biomechanics of humans in order to communicate and deal efficiently for the cause (education). The project would provide the basis for enhancements of the project for further development in the future.

Project ObjectivesThe project is purely based to cater the emerging era of Humanoid Robots that are assisting mankind in different aspects of life, but keeping in mind the limitation of resources in the local market. The prime objective of the project is to provide a nexus between Education and Robotics. The world is transmogrifying with the pace of technology and science. This step would be a leap forward in the world of Education, as of now education is being dealt in the same old-fashioned way. This project will bring a new change to what we think when we talk about “Teachers”. A new way of communication between the students and the teachers. The Humanoid Teaching Assistant will revolutionize the way students learn. The robot will be completely operational and fully controlled by ROS and the design would include complete movements of the unit in order to interact with the real world, providing speech and visionary capabilities for human interaction.
Project Implementation MethodThe implementation of the project can be broken down into three basic sections; Robot Operating System, acting as the brain of the robot, PCB acting the control unit and Mechanical structure i.e the complete model of the operational unit.
The software section of the robot, ROS is the brain of the Robot controlling and assigning the tasks to be performed.
The PCB, consisting of Raspberry pie (master), Arduino (slave), PSU and Buck converters, responsible for powering up the whole Unit and performing accurate and precise movements of the mechanical structure of the robot as per the instructions of ROS.
The mechanical structure consisting of Arms, Shoulders, the body and the base for localization, is the basis of the project as the accuracy and finishing of the mechanical structure will affect the overall working of the project. The mechanical structure except the base is made from sections of aluminum sheet which are bent and cut giving it an H-like structure. The movement of the aluminium links are provided using servo motors which are connected at each joint along with a link-joint opposite. Four 26inch aluminum pipes are erected from the waist to provide support for the shoulder and head of the robot.
For the localization, the base is designed of iron structure with two main wheels and two castors. The base holds all the electronics in it.
To revolutionize and modernize the current education system in our country and introducing more attractive method of teaching for early age schooling.
The beneficiaries of the project will be the students of primary classes and it will help to change our education system by introducing a more attractive and modern method of teaching.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe Humanoid Teaching Assistant, once fully completed and operational would be ready to be introduced int the Educational Institutes and Organizations where it will be fully capable of interacting with the students and as programmed or commanded by the ROS, it'll be purely in the hands of the organization of how do they want it to operate.
It can act as a teacher.
It can act as a teacher's assiatant or a helper.
