Special input and output devices have been designed over the years with the purpose of easing the communication between computers and humans, the two most known are the keyboard and mouse. The airplane host and hostess use gestures to explain the safety guide for the passengers before the airplane takes off, since most of the passengers might unable to understand their languages especially for aged or hear-impaired passengers. Gestures used for communication between people and machines as well. Building natural interaction between human and computer required accurate hand gesture recognition system as an interface for easily human computer interaction (HCI). This project explores the uses of neural networks to recognise manual postures (static hand positions) and gestures (dynamic hand positions). The postures and gestures are recorded using a hand-gesture input device. Human Machine Interface or HMI is a system comprising of hardware and software that helps in communication and exchange of information between the user (human operator) and the machine. Gestures can be static (posture) or dynamic (sequence of postures). Static gestures require less computational complexity rather than dynamic gestures which are complex and for that it is suitable for real time environments.

We normally use LED Indicators, Switches, Touch Screens and LCD Displays as a part of HMI devices. Another way to communicate with machines like Robots or Computers is with the help of Hand Gestures.Instead of using a keyboard, mouse or joystick, we can use our hand gestures to control certain functions of a computer like play/pause a video, move left/right in a photo slide show, scroll up/down in a web page and many more.In this project, we have implemented a simple Arduino based hand gesture control where you can control few functions of your web browser like switching between tabs, scrolling up and down in web pages, shift between tasks (applications), play or pause a video and increase or decrease the volume (in VLC Player) with the help of hand gesture.

Project Objectives

• We want to design such type of system which work on the hand gesture recognition.
• We give inputs through hand waves our through fingers and computer must response against these gestures.
• And we make this system in such away that it can be used in every computers easily by connecting webcam.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

• qIn this Our system translates the detected gesture into actions such as opening websites and launching applications like VLC Player and PowerPoint.
• The dynamic gesture is used to shuffle through the slides in presentation. Our purposed solution show that an intuitive HCI can be achieved with minimum hardware requirements.
• qSuch human  gestures  could  be  used  to  improve  human machine interface. These may be used to control a wide variety  of  devices  remotely.
• q Acquired data in recognition system can be obtained either using spare devices such as instrumented data glove devices, or using the virtual hand image, both of the mentioned methods are used to extract gesture features
