Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryAs there is no internet service available in mountainous area such Azad Kashmir, so proposed system based on GSM, where end-user can switch ON/OFF home appliances remotely and can save energy. The concept behind this is to receive a message string from mobile and then processing it to perform the desired function. This is most useful for people living alone since it allows them to remotely monitor their appliances.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of this project is to develop a device that can automatically regulate power surge in the home and allow its users to remotely control and monitor multiple home appliances using a cellular phone. This system is a powerful and flexible tool that will offer this service at any time, and from anywhere with the constraints of the technologies being applied. Possible target appliances include anything with an electrical interface.
General objectives of the project are defined as
- To co-ordinate appliances and other devices through Short Message Service (SMS).
- To effectively receive and transmit data via SMS.
- To eliminate the need of being physically present in any location for tasks involving the operation of appliances within a household/office.
- Minimize power and time wastage.
Proposed system will be implemented using C-programing language for Arduino to design smart home appliance control system. A GSM module is installing for remotely smart home appliance connectivity without intervention of internet as in remote area like Azad Kashmir where internet facility is not available widely. Sensors, actuators and a gateway are installing to establish network.
Benefits of the ProjectFollowing are benefits of the proposed system
- The GSM module receives and acknowledges the message containing keyword sent by the user.
- Arduino compares the keywords in the message with the desired keyword.
- If the received keyword matches the desired keyword then the Arduino acknowledges it
and send HIGH signal to the relay.
- If the received keyword doesn’t match with the desired keyword then the whole operation stops there.
- This is done by manually type message and send and also an Android app which provide GUI to the use to interact efficiently to the system using GSM service.
The purpose of this project is to save electricity by managing smart home appliances remotely. On completion of this project propose system will be able to control smart home appliance system without internet facilities in mountainous are like Azad Kashmir where internet facilities are not available widely. An android app will be a human-system interaction that facilitates user to control appliances remotely using GSM.
