Gestures Controlled Home Automation
Home automation technology implemented in recent decade achieved great importance and it improves living standards and reduces the work of people. The home automation technology found plays a major role in everyone’s general life, because it gives the user the comfort and ease of access of home devices. Automation of a home system connects devices to a central network. Usually the interface used for control of the system uses a mobile application, tablet or personal computers, or a Web interface, which can be accessed off-site through the Internet. Industry standards accepted throughout the world is very less and the smart home space is heavily divided. Manufacturing companies often withheld independent usage and implementation by withholding certain documentation and by civil litigation. As we know that there are many physically handicapped people in our society who face problems when it comes to doing some household works using different electrical appliances. In order to eliminate this problem home automation technology found plays an important role.
With each passing day the gap between the machines and humans is being reduced with the introduction of new technologies to ease the standard of living. A gesture is a form of non-verbal communication where physical action, especially hands, is used for data transmission. A system which utilizes sensor fusion, low-power digital components, and smartphone cellular capabilities can extend the usefulness of such a system to allow greater adaptivity for patients with various needs. This project proposes a possible solution to control the gadgets for handicaps and blind people.
• To train the system to detect gestures through gyroscope.
• To make a wireless home automation system.
• To turn the appliances on and off by performing gestures through gyroscope.
• To develop an android application on android studio.
• To connect the application with internet to have access from anywhere.
• To turn the appliances on and off through mobile application.
The tools which we have used in our development are “Android Studio” and “Arduino IDE”. In android studio, we have constructed the code which will allow us to control the home appliances just by a single touch on the interface. We will be able to control all the appliances through the application which we made from the Android Studio. Whereas in Arduino IDE, we have constructed the algorithms by which we can toggle our appliances on/
Assumptions
• The user will be able to control home appliances just by a swing of hand i.e. motion control.
• The user will be able to control home appliances through the application.
• The user shall be able to view the status of the appliance when they will be toggled on/off.
• The user shall be able to switch to the next appliance by motion control.
• The user can control many home appliances at a time with no restriction.
System constraints
• The mobile should be connected to the internet.
• The module should be connected to the internet.
• The user has to wear the glove which contains sensor in it.
• The user will be in a range to use the sensor.
• The system should have power supply.
Restrictions
The constraints applied by the client was that the application should have a Wi-Fi connection.
Limitations
• Our system does not add and delete a light.
• Our system cannot control the speed of fan.
This project is to be user friendly with everyone, especially for those who are handicaps. Those who are handicaps should be able to turn on or off the lights or fans etc. with just moving their hands instead of going to circuit breaker and turning it on or off. This device will be an ease of use for such people. Taking the home automation to the next level of generation where most of the works in a daily life can be done by just using hand gestures through our product. Our product is basically the part of future generation technology work which will be then the center of attention for every home automation and it will be an ease of life. Every technology which is developing day by day is only for ease of life in our daily work meanwhile it is making our work easy and getting us results in short time.
• Disabled person
As they are on a wheel chair or unable to walk through the home to use home appliances as they can just use our system sitting one place or another to use the desired home appliances to perform specific task.
• Blind People
Blind people need some self-assistance in carrying out some basic activities at home so blind people can use our system to function home appliances for them without any assistance.
