Project Title

Fool Proof Identification System for Non Custom Paid wanted and Stolen Vehicles

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

Our project is about a vehicle management system that identifies non-custom paid (NCP), wanted/stolen vehicles based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). In data. In this project our aim and objective are to develop a smart identification system, foolproof, cost-effective, state of the art technology, based identification system for non-custom paid wanted or stolen vehicles. In this, the economy of the state will rise very quickly. The noise and air pollution will be  decreased. Traffic on roads and the rate of accidents will decrease very rapidly.   It is a contactless technology that detects vehicles by radio-frequency signals and extracts the data.  If implemented at any particular road/gate, it will read/record the vehicle's data as a result, the legality of vehicles can be determined. This system is time-efficient would decrease the heavy traffic and crime rates in a city with the least human intervention.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

For the project implementation prototype we need RFID Tag, RFID Reader, Database. RFID Tag will be mounted on the number plate of the vehicle and the wind screen of the vehicle. The reader will be mounted on the tool booth arm of the check post. The RFID reader will be connected with the database at the host PC in the control room. When the vehicles come near to the RFID reader so the reader will ask to receive data from the tag and the tag will provide data under secure conditions which are implemented. So the reader will provide the tag data to the database and the database will check this data with the original data if this data matches so the green light becomes ON and the tool booth arm will open otherwise red light will be ON and the tool bath will not be open.

Making of RFID Tag unclonable is the first step of our project. To solve this issue, we have studied many literature review about RFID Tag. We selected UHF Ucode DNA Tag. This is an NXP product it is highly secured tag means unclonable. It is unclonable because of Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman (RSA) algorithm.
In an RFID chip there are three portions to store data. Information security portion, the controlling area, and the information area portion. The information security area has three portions Assigned number, chip manufacturing code, serial number the assigned number represents the production of the different standard chip. The chip manufacturing code represents the chip. The serial number denotes the different chip. The information security area can be written once in the factory and cannot be changed after the factory.

Benefits of the Project

There are a great scope and need for this project in our country.  It is on record that non-custom paid/smuggled and stolen vehicles are causing huge losses to the national treasury and harm to the streets besides increasing rush on main roads of various big cities.  According to a survey conducted in Malakand Divison alone, the total estimated NCP cars were around 455,000. Similarly, such cars have flooded the roads and are common all around the country causing huge losses to the government each year. The custom duty whenever imposed can be in billions of rupees due to which many economic issues can be resolved.  Along with this, a growing number of crimes can be reduced that occurs due to NCP or stolen vehicles.  Another concern is ‘doubling of cars’ i.e. two cars with the same data and acting as genuine though one of them is invalid with fake documents. Hence, this project would address these issues.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Technical Details:

  1. RFID Tag or Smart Label: The tag used in this project is a passive RFID UHF (Ultra High Frequency) tag. As the tag is passive hence, it does not has any power source and takes the power from the reader. This tag is composed of a microchip for computing and a small amount of memory for storing information about vehicles.
  2. RFID readers: In this system, it acts as an interrogator, and transmit/receive signals from the antenna to communicate with RFID Tag and make it possible to extract (read and write) information about the vehicles.
  3. Antenna:  Antenna has used as a medium for reading the tag. In this system, the RFID reader’s signals are converted into Radiofrequency waves by antennas to make it possible to be picked by an RFID tag.
  4. Backend Database:  In this RFID system cloud database is used. As the data is extracted by the reader from the tag, the data is saved at the backend database. At the backend, the system will make few decisions like  deciding on the lawfulness of the vehicle.
