Project Summary

Hunger is more than just an empty stomach. It is a condition in which a person, for weeks, months, or even years on end, is unable to eat the food that they need in order to sustain themselves. Many people across Pakistan experience food insecurity every day, year in, year out. They have insufficient food to lead happy and healthy lives that their body needs in order to function. Each year, hunger takes away more lives than AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis (TB) combined while others are living in abundance, with many others carelessly throwing food away. Many of us have wasted food in one way or another, but real food losses and waste matter is bigger than just consumer food waste. We have identified the use of mobile technology to reduce food waste management and built an android mobile application that allows restaurants to donate and share their foods and leftovers with people in need. Across the world, there are restaurants that waste tons of excess food every day. We would like to create an android app to establish a link between restaurants and charity households to enable excess food donation.

1.3 billion tons of food is wasted each year, volunteers who wants to donate food but they have no time can send their money to the registered food centers to donate food. Forward-thinking businesses are using advanced technology such as data analytics to tackle the issue. The information collated and analyzed using data analytics reveals the waste generated by the business and seasonal change in demands, helping businesses to better plan their food waste Management. Food losses and food waste are quickly becoming a top global issue because while there are millions of families with children starving.

Our Proposed Android App will help needy people to get food when they need it. The donor will upload the quantity of food and live location from where they are donating, nearby registered deserving will be notified. The proposed App. will provide a platform for food donating and people can easily donate their food to needy people and to the hungry people. Our Proposed App. will also provide a platform to different human welfare organizations to donate food. Proposed App. will also provide enough information that a donor required to donate food to deserving individuals as well as organizations.

Project Objectives

2. Our suggested system will bring food donors and needy people into one system. This will help us to reduce hunger by sharing food.
3. Some donors are willing to share food but they don’t have a proper way to help needy people. Our suggested system will help such donors by listing count needy people.
4. There are some white-collar people who really need help but they are reluctant to ask about food. Our suggested system will help such people by providing them food sourcing.
5. Our suggested system will help restaurants to donate food by providing them a list of needy people.
6. Our suggested system will work as a bridge to reduce hunger and food waste in our beloved country.

Project Implementation Method

Donate food for needy people to reduce hunger.

1. Using technology we are making a community in which needy people and food donors are connected to each other. Food donors would able to add a post about food. This post will include information like
   1. Quantity of food
   2. The location from where needy people can collect the food.
   3. Contact information of the Donner.
2. There are some needy people who are not willing to beg. This application will provide them a platform where they can post and demand food.
3. By using technology Proposed App. will allow restaurants to add posts using this network, so needy people can see the post and get the food, that's how a large quantity of food will prevent wasting.
4. Whole the network will be connected through the firebase real-time database. There would be two types of accounts. Needy people can select needy people account type and donors can select donor account type. Then donor publishes a post only he/she can see the post other donors will not allow seeing the post. All the needy people would able to see that specific post which is posted by the donor. The same thing is with the needy People account. Only Donors would be able to see the post which is published by a needy person. Other people will not able to see that post.
5. Firebase will provide services as a server through which interconnected networks will be held. All the posts from the donor side and from the acceptor side will be managed through real-time database a post status could be update change or delete.
6. When a donor or restaurant posts the published post will also include destination and all location credentials. Location and destination including navigation all the things will be used through Google maps. All the services of Google maps will be fetched in our Android application by using retrofit and volley libraries, which are provided by Android to fetch third-party application programming interfaces in our application. Google map API will allow showing the location of donor and specific restaurant to the needy people. Location and all the navigation will be provided to the needy people by using this application programming interface.

Benefits of the Project

1. Our Proposed App. provides a source of communication between different services that are working on the same mission. It will increase efficiency and will create awareness among people for using technology in the best way as it should be used.
2. The proposed App. will bring food donors and needy people to one platform. This will help us to reduce hunger by sharing food.
3. Utilizing the food for a couple of days can lead to spoiling of the food materials and ultimately can lead to wastage. So, the best way can be the donation of such food to the poor and needy people in the society. This will also feed the hungry people and also will save the food from getting wasted.
4. Proposed App. will reduce time consumption during the food donation process and make the whole donation process digital. It will save a lot of time for donors and also help the needy people to get food without wasting their time and wait for food.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final deliverables will be an android based application which will prevent food wastage and will provide a mechanism to donate food to the needy people.

There will be two types of user accounts.

1. Donor
2. Acceptor/Needy people

Needy people can see the post uploaded by the donor that is willing to donate food. In the needy people account type, only donors can see the post. No else one can see the needy people's post to protect their self-respect.

If needy people account holder publishes a post, it will include the location of the person who is demanding the food. All the navigation credentials will also be included in the demanding person’s post. Contact information of the person who is demanding the food will also be included in the post.

After selecting an account type the user will enter it into the system. For example, if the user uses the donor account type there would be some things as follows:

The donor can post for donating food. There will be a picture of food, the name of the food, and a description of the food. After adding these details user would have to add his location which will be based on Google Maps API.  All the navigation credentials will also be shown in the post when needy people click on the post.

Contact Information of the donor will also be included in the post. Once the post is published all the users who have a needy people account can see the post. All the users who have needy people account can navigate to the location of the donor. All the needy people account holders can also see the contact information of the donor.

There is a huge problem which is that if a person wants to get food and he/she cannot get any post-update what he/she will do?

The solution to that problem is here. If a user selects the account type of needy people account. This will include the following things:

• Needy people can see the posts published by restaurants or donors.
• Secondly, A person who needs food can also demand food by publishing a post in this community.

In that post in which a needy person is demanding food will include the name of the demanding person, location, contact information, etc.

Only restaurants and donor account holders can see the post of the person who is demanding the food.

The person who is demanding the food through his post can update or delete that post.
