In recent years businesses are expending exponentially. New industries are being setup. Industries mostly contain Hazardous materials and equipment. Not only industries but now a days houses also contain flammable materials and devices which is extremely vulnerable to fire. Small fires can cause huge losses if left un-attended. As well as, firefighting is a risky and dangerous job. Hundreds of firefighters lose their lives during firefighting.

In this project we propose a Dual mode, Semi-Automated and Fully Automated firefighting robot. That use sensors data to detect fires and triggers an extinguishing mechanism to extinguish fire at the first place.

Semi-Automated mode is controlled by wireless connectivity (Bluetooth rd fire manually. When flame sensor detect fire it automatically triggers the extinguisher mechanism.

Fully-Automated Mode:

Fully-Automated mode is fully automated, there is no need to control robot manually. It uses AI vision system and monitor surrounding and response accordingly.

Project Objectives

The Objective of our project are work in environment where human are either absent or human cannot get access in critical conditions such as fire broke, this functionality of robot aimed to save precious human lives and saving their properties.

1.  Integrate and understand the robot various parts and its sensors.

2. Build a robot to move around freely manually with human control.

3. In firsts phase we will make a Semi-Automated firefighter robot which will be wireless controlled.

4. In the second phase we build an automated the robot by applying artificial intelligence and computer vision techniques.

Project Implementation Method

As discussed in summary, this robot consists of two modes, Semi-Automated and Fully Automated.

Semi-Automated Mode:

For this mode we use Bluetooth connectivity (By Smart Phone) for controlling robot. Flame sensors to detect fire. An Arduino UNO microcontroller to control over all mechanism of robot. Another Arduino UNO is used to control extinguishing module and we use servo-motor to operate fire extinguisher.

Fully-Automated Mode:

To operate robot automatically by AI vision we use camera for continuous monitoring and detecting fire automatically. A Raspberry Pi 3 will be used to control this process. When robot detect fire, it will move towards the object and the Extinguisher module starts working.

Benefits of the Project

1. The firefighting robot will save many lives not only the people who are in the danger but also the people who are extinguishing the fire.

2. Firefighting robot can access to area of large fire broke where human cannot get access to it.

3. Our propose project will reduce manpower.

4. Robot will operate in the absence of humans. Such as, empty house. In case of any emergency, Robot detects fire and response automatically. It will beneficial for human’s property and assets.

5. Human doesn’t need to move closer to fire, by wireless controlling human moves robot towards fire and extinguish fire by using robot. It will beneficial for human health or life

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Semi-Automated Mode:

We use two Arduino UNOs for Semi-Automated mode. One for controlling Bluetooth connectivity and second for extinguisher mechanism.

An Arduino UNO will connects with the motor driver, which controls motors of robot. A Bluetooth module will connected to smart phone to receive commands and further send to the Arduino to control motors.

Second Arduino we use for sensing flame and extinguisher mechanism. Flame sensor will connects to Arduino UNO, if flame sensor detects flame it will automatically trigger towards the servo motors. Servo motors shaft will connected to the fire Extinguisher’s button. The Servo Motor works until flame sensor changes its receiving values.

Fully-Automated Mode:

For this mode we use camera for the purpose of continuous monitoring and fire detection using AI vision system. A Raspberry Pi 3 micro controller will be used for image processing purposes. If it detects fire it will move towards the fire while detecting obstacle and avoiding them, it will also confirm that it is fire or not by flame sensors and if confirmed it will trigger the fire-extinguishers from safe distance and will keep extinguishing until the fire is completely extinguished
