Fatal movement in rural areas

Project Area of Specialization

Wearables and Implantable

Project Summary

In this project, hardware (a belt to wear by the mother) will be designed which is a non-invasive device to calculate physiological signs and symptoms (e .g. heartbeat and movement) of women during pregnancy. If the health signs of baby are normal, the device will show green signal otherwise red signal.

For this purpose, a database will be created in which baby health will be stored. Further, baby’s heart beat and movement will be identified as normal or not normal.

Sensors that are used in this project are RaspberryPi or Arduino.

Baby’s stats will have wave and figure dual display. An android application will also be designed so that mother can also view the stats of baby.

Project Objectives

  • The main objective is to save women lives in rural areas while they are pregnant.
  • Baby’s health will be monitored by this device, so ultrasound is not required more frequently.
  • Easy and cost effective solution in rural areas.
  • Saving babies from death before birth.
  • Timely detection of abnormal symptoms during pregnancy.
  • Improvement in heath conditions especially in rural areas.

Project Implementation Method

Web based as well as Mobile based

Tool(s) : Angular.js

DBMS : MySQL

Platform : Windows

Benefits of the Project

As per current estimates, Pakistan loses 14,000 women in childbirth every year; translating into one death every 37 minutes. Pregnant women having still birth although can notice that their baby’s movements had slowed down or stopped but they can’t report it due to lack or absence of medical facilities, especially in rural areas .If these symptoms can be reported to a doctor in time, there is a huge opportunity of saving baby’s life during pregnancy.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Proposed Belt is a gadget that can be worn down on lower part of a pregnant woman body. This gadget will have smart sensors which will be connected to the mobile device for data exchange. This gadget will calculate heartbeat of baby and will send the data through sensors to the doctor mobile available at his/her place. An android application will also be designed so that mother can also view the stats of baby.
