Experimental investigation and Application of ANN to predict performance and emissions of SI engine using gasoline-propanol blends
Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryThe title of our project is "Application of ANN to predict performance and emissions of SI engine using gasoline-propanol blends". We used gasoline-propanol blends with concentrations ranging from 0 percent propanol to 18 percent propanol. By using these blended fuels, we analyzed the engine performance and emissions. After the calculations of the actual results, we will apply the ANN method to predict the performance and emissions. The use of blended fuels will ultimately reduce the emissions and result in better engine performance like brake power, torque, brake specific fuel consumption and thermal efficiency. We will analyze NOx, CO, CO2, and HC emissions. This project will ultimately help us build a cleaner environment with the increased efficiency of our vehicles.
Project ObjectivesThe main and the foremost objective of our project is to reduce the emissions that pollute the environment and to increase engine performance parameters like brake power, torque, efficiency, etc.
Project Implementation MethodA four-stroke, single-cylinder and spark ignition (Honda GX160) engine was used to carry out the experiment. The experiment was carried out without doing any changes to the engine structure. A 7-inch Dynomite (water brake) dynamometer was employed in the evaluation. The dynamometer was attached to the engine with the application of a shaft made up of fine mild steel specifically designed for the process. An EMS-5002 emission analyzer was used to assess the emissions of the engine. A 500ml measuring cylinder graded with 0.5ml was used to provide fuel and analyze fuel flow.
Benefits of the ProjectIt will surely bring about positive change in our environment by reducing harmful emissions.
also, it will benefit the general public and the industries as well by increasing the engine performance parameters.
Technical Details of Final Deliverableno one has yet done any experimental analysis on the use of the gasoline-propanol blended fuel to analyze the engine performance and emissions. Also, the use of the ANN strategy makes it even more innovative so that we can analyze the long term results too. It will bring about positive changes in our environment and will surely serve as a replacement for the original gasoline.
final results,
As far as engine performance is concerned, brake power, torque, brake specific fuel consumption, and efficiency, all the parameters increased with the use of blended fuel.
While CO and HC emissions reduced and CO2 and NOx emissions showed a bit increase in their concentration when compared with gasoline.
