Project Title

Exoskeleton Passive Legs for Gait Movement

Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary

People with a paralyzed or badly functioning legs are currently bound to a wheelchair for the rest of their life. In daily life, such a wheelchair can be experienced as a constraint. Simple things, such as doing groceries, cooking or walking up the stairs are a challenge, or sometimes even impossible. An exoskeleton can possibly be a solution for this in the future!

With the exoskeleton we create a larger freedom of movement. Naturally, this has practical benefits. The person that wears the suit can stand up and go wherever he or she wants. Moreover, they can speak with their friends and family on eye level. This is often experienced as something with great emotional value.

Project Objectives

The project is intended to help and rehabilitate those patients which are unable to walk due to spinal cord injury. The proposed exoskeleton will provide external mechanical support to the bodies of such patients, so that their limbs can move freely with little effort.

Project Implementation Method

The first scenario will be to make a control box for exoskeleton.
Then we will be working on the metal frame of the body. The metal will be steel in the prototype.

We will start implementing the 1st part of the frame and start assembling till the last part.
100% accuracy will be needed before presenting the final product. As it is very crucial part.
Walking or standing takes an angle to move with.
If the angle is not achieved then the patient might face difficulties.

Benefits of the Project

Walking in an exoskeleton also has physical benefits. The blood flow in the legs improves significantly. The bones and muscles also grow stronger because of this, which ensures an overall better physical condition. The chances of thrombosis or pressure ulcers diminish. Finally, the bowel function improves. All of these physical benefits are unique for training in an exoskeleton

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will using 4 actuators motors attached to the metal frame on prototype followed by a synthetic fibre final product.
The product will aim to lift 120kgs of weight easily.
The tilt sensor and emg sensor will be used for patients with more moving restrictions.
