Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummarySilos are large bulk structures used for storage of grains. Storing grains can cause spoilage due to unsuitable environmental conditions. Insects are produced which cause losses by direct feeding damage and also deterioration and contamination of grain.
In this project, we are looking forward to make silos intelligent by monitoring their environmental conditions like temperature, humidity and gases. We will be controlling one characteristic, i.e. humidity.
First of all we made the structure of silos. By the help of sensors we will be monitoring environmental conditions like temperature, humidity and gases. We will be controlling humidity with the help of hot air blower.
Project Objectives1) To develop a system for silos which monitors environmental conditions
2) To control the conditions before spoilage of grains
3) To reduce costs wasted in spoilage of grains
Project Implementation MethodWe will monitor environmental conditions by three temperature and humidity sensors and three gas sensors. They would be hanged in arrays of sensors inside a silo. The data would be send to cloud. For controlling humidity, hot air blower will be used based on the recorded values.
Benefits of the Project1) The project will help in reducing the costs wasted in spoilage of grains.
2) Spoilage would be reduced by controlling conditions before spoilage.
3) More quantity of grains will be utilized than before
Technical Details of Final DeliverableIt would be a silo structure of size 7feet with three sensor arrays and connected pipes with blower. The sensor arrays will contain temperature and humidity sensors and gas sensors. Pipes will be connected to hot air hot air blower which will be used to control humidity factor.
The data will be transferred to cloud via WiFi.
