Project Summary

The number of bikes produced in Pakistan is continuously growing; in the financial year 2019/2020 alone, 2,558,964 motorcycles were produced. There were a total of 2,557,792 sales. It has been demonstrated that not wearing a helmet, not tightly buckling the helmet, or using a substandard helmet increases the risk of death and head injury in motorcycle accidents. According to WHO data, over a quarter of all road collision victims who require medical attention had a serious brain injury.
Wearing a helmet has been found to lower the probability and severity of the damage among motorcyclists by over 70%, the possibility of mortality by almost 40%, and the expenditures on health care connected with such collisions by a significant amount.
In this project, we work on different materials to make more reliable safety helmets; IT-based and have more efficiency to reduce the risk of head injuries. In this helmet, we will use airbags that reduce the impact forces. As the helmet is IOT-based, sensors attached to the impact point of the helmet will send the location and an emergency message to the guardian and an emergency alert.
The material which we are using is Kelver and Carbon Fiber. Kelver is used in making bullet-proof vests and helmets which have great strength to bear the impact forces. On the other side, Carbon fiber is used in the making of bodies of cars, etc which is light also has great strength to bear impacts.
 

Project Objectives

Our goal is to develop "Enhanced safety of Motorbikes through IoT based Smart Helmet" that are more reliable safety helmets, IT-based, and have more efficiency to reduce the risk of head injuries. 
We should make it Cost-effective for the local people. These helmets will bear all the impact of forces and save them from any head injuries.
Another aim is to make helmets which is IOT Based. At the time of the accident, it will send an emergency Alert to the guardian and the location of the rider.
The materials used in this are very great in strength; Carbon Fiber and Kelver. 

Project Implementation Method

GPS & GSM technology is used for tracking the location of the bike rider and sending a text message to the family 
Members of the Bike rider when an accident occurs. Our Smart helmet is used for Accident Detection and Bike Rider Safety. A helmet is one of the most essential and important elements a Motorcyclist must wear to avoid any possible road accidents. It ensures the safety of the motorcyclist’s head from the deadly impact caused by the accident and provides guarantees protection to the bike riders and provides a hundred percent user reliability.
Wearing a helmet is imperative while riding a motorcycle because it can save the rider from severe injury to the head with an accident. So, this is where the sharp IR sensor will come into action.

Benefits of the Project

The smart helmet is not an ordinary helmet. As I mentioned in its name, it is a helmet with smart functionalities. It provides the user with high-level safety and full access to his phone while driving a motorbike or bicycle. The purpose of the product is to provide safety by providing the information of surroundings by using the technology and allowing the user to access his/her phone functionalities by his/her voice. The smart helmet is a helmet with some hardware installed in it. The end product is the helmet which performs different functionalities by connecting to the user’s android phone.
A smart helmet is a type of protective headgear used by the rider which makes bike driving safer than before. The main purpose of this helmet is to provide safety for the rider.
The smart helmet incorporates, Bluetooth-enabled headphones, an emergency switch in case of emergencies, and an ignition control system; that makes the rider feel comfortable, and safe and receive calls while riding.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A helmet is one of the most essential and important elements a Motorcyclist must wear to avoid any possible road accidents. It ensures the safety of the motorcyclist’s head from the deadly impact caused by the accident and provides guarantees protection to the bike riders and provides a hundred percent user reliability..
