Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThis project explains that Power over Ethernet (POE) is the technology containing wired local area networks (LANs) or also called Ethernet .The cable we are using is CAT 5 containing the protocol of 802.3af.POE delivers power over the same Ethernet cables and also deliver the data over it. Using PD (Power Devices) on a POE network delivers excellent energy efficiency because it minimizes inefficient power-conversion stages for devices used in a retrofitted, legacy, AC-powered socket and things that is powered through external AC source. This application also explains that how powering and controlling devices over a POE network creates the opportunity to control the room devices in new and more reliable ways. POE brings the novelty towards the AC systems so that the devices are safe from AC hazards. As using Microcontroller with Ethernet shield (POE enabled) for data transferring from POE switch to detection circuit that detects not the load but tells the switch that you would transfer the power at the PD load. It is only used for commercial works or also used in networking companies.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of doing this project is that data and power is delivered on safe nominal values of voltages are carried over the same Ethernet cable. The freedom that is given to power devices, where they are needed ,where power cords dictate, and the long-term flexibility to move devices around the suitability for sharing both highly desirable benefits for any organization. POE brings the idea that both power and data can not only transfer but also communicate with each by detecting the power device at the end terminal or where the power devices are installed.
Project Implementation MethodThe proposed Energy Optimization via POE system mainly consists of several stages; Web server, Smart POE switch, Microcontroller(ARDUINO UNO),Ethernet shielded to Dc converters, relays and non PDs such as LED lights and fans.
- WEB APPLICATION: The purpose of this process will have to operate the NON /PDs devices through the IP.
- POE Switch: This will have to support power and data transmission over one Ethernet cable at the same time after detecting the load. Without detecting load power cannot be transmitted at the load.
- MICROCONTROLLER ABD ETHERNET SHIELD: In this section microcontroller ON or OFF that particular device that we are put in the web server and also adds the IP of the Ethernet shield which is POE enabled.
- DETECTION CIRCUIT: This circuit gives the signal to the POE switch that powered can be deliver to the PD because of this indication POE switch delivered the power to the load.
- DC to DC converters: it converts the voltages to the desired voltage of the Powered devices so that the can easily be operated.
- Relays: relay works for channelizing the switch system to become the load safer and reliable.
- LED/FAN: These are non PD devices that don’t have built-in detection in it but PD has built-in detection circuit.
The benefits of this POE enabled energy optimization has some main points that helps to bring the advancement in technology and also delivering energy. That is
- Increased transparency regarding accuracy and applicability of energy data reported by POE systems.
- Increased prevalence of energy reporting, whether via POE or other means is that many devices can be powered through this network switch (POE)
- Increased lighting or other devices industry awareness and understanding of the complexity and benefits of POE connected lighting systems.
- Improved IT industry understanding of lighting or other needs.
The tecnical detail for the hardware is how we put the cables in order and maintainable ways so that no breakage would be considered in it.As using our technical knowledge about some hardware is that the connection of the circuitary between the Arduino and Ethernet shield and also the connection of how non PD devices can be powered through detection circuit.Without detection of load (PD ) we can't delieverd the power from switch to load.The technical term we are using is POE switch concept,Ethernet cable containing protocol of 802.3 af and its certain power wattage.
The tecnical detail for the softwares we are using is the web application for the IP so that non PD can power up through both IP and power. Also arduino programming for the certain non PD (power devices) to on, we need some instruction for the transmission of data from load switch .
