Abstract: In this project, we propose a method for cooperative localization and tracking of mobile nodes in the heterogeneous 5G cellular networks.
Cooperative localization is a powerful approach for mobile networks. Location information is the major component in location based applications. This information is used in different safety and service oriented applications to provide users with services according to their Geo-location. Our localization method is based on hello message delay (sending and receiving time) and coordinate information of Base Transceiver Station (BTSs).
Context: Cellular wireless /Mobile communications have seen four generations of technological developments. Starting with analog voice with the first, and then moving on to digital voice with the second generation, these generations were launched each with a clear technological advancement. For the third generation, the requisite advancement was to add data on top of a voice-based infrastructure. With the fourth generation, every service was converted into data format, or packetized transmissions, including voice and video. Today, Telecommunication technologists are proposing the fifth generation (5G) that is expected to launch around the time frame of 2020. 5G network targets include high-frequency spectrum (millimeter wave spectrum), smaller cells, more device to-device communication or machine-type communication and reduced latency-rate.
Localization: Localization in cellular networks is a technique of finding the location or exact geographic position of a user. Localization is done by cellular servers by collecting data of SIMs through signal towers. Location information is important in location based applications and also helps to improve communication system performance. Location information is also important to provide users with services according to their geolocation.
Problem Statement: Today’s location-aware applications demand the cellular network to have comprehensive localization methods. Not only this, but localization also helps to improve communication system performance. While 3G and 4G LTE have made the first step on this arena, the upcoming 5G cellular network is striving to bring precision in this. Once implemented, the localization aspect of 5G is going to support services including accurate location of mobile nodes, device centric architecture and native support for Device-to-Device (D2D) communication.
Target Results: Increasing number of anchor nodes in our simulation result, we aim to reduce the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) that appears in localization determination. We intend to make use of the Triangulation algorithm in order to achieve this purpose.

This project will help in solving localization problem in the next generation networks. Our project results will enable industries to make use of 5G technology for goods tracking and monitoring, without making use of the global positioning system. 5G wireless technology has higher bandwidth that’s why it is the efficient solution for security and surveillance.
