Effectiveness of TENS and TDCS in cognitive performance and pain reduction
We will analyze the effectiveness of tDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation) and TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) on the cognitive ability by experimentally inducing pain. TENS and tDCS is an electrical neuromodulation technique which provides pain relief , provides relaxation and reduces stress. EEG Device will be used to analyze that how much intensity of pain is reduced and enhanced cognitive ability at different time intervals and which location of the brain has recovered the pain fastly and which location has recovered the lastly.
To study the effect of tDCS and TENS in cognitive response and pain reduction during experimentally inducing pain.

The combined effect of two therapies can allow to better define treatment protocols for the treatment of central nervous system disorders, such as pain, depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The results of this study can also be used to better design cognitive studies.
In long-term, this project will have an impact on individual and on industry. The long-term objectives of this project can be classified as
Health Sector Objectives: Improve the quality of life of an individual having central nervous system disorders. In other words, promote early neuro-rehabilitation.
Research Sector Objectives: Novel neuromodulatation technologies would have a multidisciplinary research impact: advanced EEG processing techniques (bioengineering), research in novel rehabilitation technologies (physiotherapy), neurorehabilitation (neurology).
This experiments aimed to focus on neuromodulation, pain, and cognitive ability, and to find the relationship between them:
Pain response with neuromodulation-tDCS. Cognitive response with neuromodulation-tDCS. Pain response with neuromodulation-TENS. Cognitive response with neuromodulation-TENS.
Relation of tDCS with Cognition: It shows that tDCS effects cognitive abilities. More specifically when anodal tDCS subjected appropriately to the left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cotrex and on motor cortex M1 for 2mA for the duration of 20 minute. Cognition was assessed by the help of n-back test, the results affirmed that the cognition was increased.
Relation of tDCS with Pain: Anodal tDCS over the DLPFC appears to increase tolerance to pain by enhancing pain threshold and ameliorate neuropathic pain.Relief in cold pain perception is also noticed when anodal tdcs is applied to left primary motor cortex.tDCS has shown its efficiency in various studies in its relation with pain like Deep and cortical Brian stimulation, Motor Cortex stimulation.tDCS relation with cognition is also appreciable in terms of treating various neurodegenerative cognitive impairment diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s disease and in various sorts of dementia. Low level, brief 1-2mA current is directly applied in the scalp more appropriately DLPFC as a common means for the specified duration, usually 30 minutes. The consensus regarding neuromodulation (tDCS) with pain is that the cathodaltDCS stimulation increases the pain threshold or the tolerance against the pain.
Relation of pain with TENS: TENS is widely known for its analgesic effects in various acute and chronic pain conditions. The hypoalgesic effect is produced with TENS via activation of multiple peripheral and central inhibitory mechanisms.activation of multiple peripheral and central inhibitory mechanisms. The effectiveness of TENS stimulation for inhibition of pain by degrading pain perception was significant when the electrodes were placed over the centre of pain or over a related nerve trunk.
Relation of TENS with cognition: Neurological and psychological examinations have revealed that TENS is also associated with the enhancement of cognitive functions by activating specific areas of brain that are involved with cognitive processing. With administration of TENS stimulation, an improvement in executive functions associated with cognition were observed at early and advanced stage of neurological diseases.
