Sometimes, recommended medicines are not available at medical stores. To overcome these problems we are proposing an application “DRUG SCAN” which will provide the information, uses, side effects, dosage, precautions, directions, alternative, price and 2D image.

OCR is used to scan the text of medicine. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is the electronic or mechanical conversion of images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text, whether from a scanned document, a photo of a document, a scene-photo or from subtitle text superimposed on an image. It’s important to have access to critical, up-to-date information on the latest prescription drugs, their interactions, side effects, and uses. Fortunately, pharmacy technician apps can produce this data, so that critical decisions can be made in a safe and informed way. It is now possible to complete dosage calculations, check drug interactions, and keep up with essential pharmacy related news from your mobile phone and make important pharmaceutical decisions within seconds but we are going to introduce our project by enhancing the features through scanning. This will help the patient to get the information about medicine by staying at home. Sometime the suggested medicines become short in market so this app will provide alternative medicines. Different medicine have different side effects it could be effect in a different manner to any patient for example some patient faces skin allergy, swelling etc. through this app patient can get information about medicine  that will it going to affect him or not.

Project Objectives

 The aim of this project is to provide an ease to get medicine information through smart drug scan application to individuals on a large scale. The deliverable for this project is a drug scan application. Many medicines applications already exist for both Android however, due to the complicated nature of prescriptions and medical regimens, most of them require a lot of user input and other undesirable features. This makes them much more difficult to use. Our objective is to create an application, which scan text of medicine and provide information about medicine, alternative, precautions, dosage, price, side effects to user.

The DRUG SCAN project will meet the following objectives:

• Scanning medicine name through OCR.
• Provide relevant information about medicines

Provide side effect, dosage, and alternative of medicine

Project Implementation Method

Gathering data from Pharmaceutical company. To provide medicine information through DRUG SCAN application to individuals on a large scale. To create database of each medicine Mobile App, Website for the information of medicines which provide ease to a common person. We will start our project by gathering the information of medicines. For this, we will concern to pharmacy department of our university as well as from pharmacy stores some of the details for sure from internet for creating our database and the scanning process of each and every medicine and create connection with the database. Designing the interface of application and connect the database with it. Website development with information of DRUG SCAN application with the feature of searching by name. Web App Web Application is based on all the information including Administration Panel  in which we will add, delete and update the information (uses, side effects, precautions and so on) of medical drugs. The final stage of our project, requires a series of defined tasks and activities that we will have done. The deliverable for this project is a drug scan application. Final product of our project will be DRUG SCAN app which would be available in Play Store.

Benefits of the Project

• Common person will be able to access information of over the counter OTC medicines (uses, side effects, precautions, alternatives). By having the authorized information user can intake the medicine without any fear.
• This app is easy to use and user will be able to use the following features           Search bar, Contact Panel, Scanning through text Voice search, Language option (English, Urdu), Speaker.
• This Application will be beneficial for a common person, especially for the older adults and illiterate people.
•  Urdu Language is the key feature which is beneficial for those who cannot able to understand English.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Developing android app and desktop application based on medicines information based on over the counter medicines. Having multiple feature to get the information i.e. search by scanning text which will scan through OCR technology, search by name or text of medicine and search by voice. The language (Urdu/English) feature is the most distinct feature. Web Application is based on all the information including Administration Panel  in which we will add, delete and update the information (uses, side effects, precautions and so on) of medical drugs.
