Project Summary

The idea is to create exosekleton lower limbs to help people with disablities.

Pakistan beign one of the countries still effected by polio, has a high number of ciitzens with lower limb issues, as polio has been known to effect, mostly, spinal cord or lower limbs.

Our project will work as legs for people who have lost movements in their legs due to any disease or accident. the aim is to able diabled folks and help them get back on their feet. 

This idea has already been worked on before but is either costly or is designed to work with neurological impulses, which takes alot of time to practice and master. and is nearly impossible for people after certin age.

We have thought to design it so that it can be controlled via a control panel making it easier for all ages.  we have decided to make an adjustable structure that will fit the avergaes sizes of Pakistani.

The idea is to keep the movements as realistic as possible.

Project Objectives

  1. Enable permanently paralyzed people to walk

  2. Enable elderly or people with weak limbs to walk without having to carry their entire weight.

  3. To keep the movements as realistic as possible.

  4. To ensure normal and smooth daily working routine for diabled people.

  5. To aid in balancing he physcial restrictions faced by people with lower limb disabilities.

Project Implementation Method

Movement of joints will be studied and a hardware will be designed with DC-gear motors to replicate the movement of joints.

The DC motors will be controlled by a microcontroller for the controlled elevation angle of the limbs and provide the desired degree of freedom (DOFs).

The limbs will receive its instruction from the control panel.

Joints for hip, knee and ankle will move with the help of dc gear motor, with greater torque it will tolerate greater weight. The idea is to keep the movements as realistic as possible.

Each joint will be controlled via the panel, the positions will be preset thourgh programming, so no sudden jerks are generated.

The exo-limbs  prepared will be joined, which will form a back support. Each exo-limb will be attached to one of the legs. The joints will fall on the joints and replicate its movements.

  4. Allow independent functioning.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable will be a complete set of lower limbs exoskeleton in a working condition, which will be attached to the lower body starting from back to provide support.

Back portion will have the battery and microcontrollers packed inside to protect them.

The limbs will enable the wearer to sit, walk and stand.

The joints will be created at hip and knee and for ankle spring based mechanism will be used which will bring the foot back to originl position due to elasticity.

It will have closed loop design controlled by Arduino.
