Development of indoor mapping model using low-cost stereo camera
Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryIn this project, we are determining the smoothness of surfaces by with aid of 3D laser scanners more specifically a ZED stereo camera. The main purpose of this project aims to determine the accuracy and accuracy of the surface with a stereo camera.
In a highly competitive market with very low-profit margins, Construction site floors and walls need to be calculated correctly. We thereby took the measurements accordingly via laptop that showed if the site's interface was there. In this project, we are determining the smoothness of surfaces by with aid of 3D laser scanners more specifically a ZED stereo camera. The objective of the project is to use the stereo camera to develop the 3D indoor mapping collecting put the results.
The geographical location that the project will cover:
• Building architecture measurements
• Building information needed
• Indoor less bright areas
The objectives of this project are as follows:
- To identify autonomous means of site surveying.
- To present viable and economical solutions with the best possible accuracy.
- To create an augmented reality environment to show results.
- To create a mounting device for the hardware.
- To make sure that the mount can easily be moved around as needed.
- To present a working hardware-sofware combination that can be applied in the industry.
The data from the stereo camera is collected in the Robot operating system (ROS) where we installed the packages of the ZED camera and the simulation, we have done in the RViz and Move It which is the ROS Framework and we took the readings from it in Excel format and import and plot it on MATLAB. This will help in determining the location of any object and thickness smoothness of the wall and any other matter of interest where the normal human cannot go Using ROS, it is open source and one of its main purposes is to provide communication between the users.
Benefits of the ProjectThe benefits of this project are as follows:
- Open space calculation
- Quality assurance
- Ease of report generation
- Better Accuracy
- Ease of use
- We can record data, save it and plot it.
- This system is portable, and we can freely move it to any place.
The final deliverables will include:
- ZED Camera
- Mount to hold camera
- Trolley to carry both the camera and laptop safely
- Laptop with ROS and MoveIT functionality
- Excel sheet with results of surveys
