Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryThe COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating effect on the health and well-being of the global population. A vital step in the combat towards COVID-19 is a successful screening of contaminated patients, with one of the key screening approaches being radiological imaging using chest x-ray images. This final year project aims to automatically detect COVID?19 patients using digital chest x?ray images while maximizing the accuracy in detection using deep neural networks (DNNs). Detection of COVID-19 using deep neural networks is helpful in early detection od the virus and also in the patients having no symptoms.
Project Objectives- To train one or more Deep neural networks for the detection of COVID-19 using x-ray image dataset of contaminated and normal patients.
- To compare the efficacy of detection with existing DNNs and other testing methods.
- Dataset will be acquired via online avaialble dataset sources and we'll also try to get hands on the locally avaiable x-ray images data from hospitals.
- Deep neural network frameworks will be chosed on literature review basis for the training puposes.
- DNNs will be trained on the online+locally acquired data set.
- Testing will be done on real x-ray images of healthy and contaminated people to validate the results of the trained models.
- Comparison will be performed with exiting detection methods to validate the efficacy of the trained model.
The project will be helpful in:
- Early detection detection for COVID-19 with robustness and accuracy.
- Detection of COVID-19 in the patients having no symptoms.
- Early detection and detection in asymptomatic patients would help in controling the spread of disease.
- Strengthing our (students') skills in the field of Artifical Intelligence which is a core need for the development of our country.
Final deliverables include a trained deep neural network system for the detection of COVID-19 virus in the patients using chest x-ray images.
