Design of Intelligent Hybrid Heater
As the increasing International crude oil prices, energy issues have gained great importance for most countries. It is predicted that the global oil demand will grow at an annual rate of 1.9%. In accordance with the petroleum’s consumption rate, the world's proven crude oil reserves can only support the current oil consumption level for 45 years and that of natural gas is 66 years. Therefore, it is imperative to seek a substitute for oil in order to make it less dominant.
Solar energy is often seen as the fuel for the future as it is environmentally friendly and inexhaustible. Solar energy is used in two major ways such as the generation of electricity and heat. Solar energy is renewable, zero carbon energy source and can be used to displace non-renewable or carbon-emitting fuels (natural gas and crude oils).
One of the major applications of solar is electric heating. As, the non-renewable sources are limited and decaying with the passage of time so solar energy overcome the crises and can extend the lifespan of natural sources.
This hybrid heater works on basically two sources i.e. solar energy and natural gas. One of the major causes to design hybrid heater is that natural gas and other non-renewable sources are depleting day by day and energy crises are increasing which leads to high cost of natural gas. Therefore, there is a need of appropriate solution which would not only use the renewable source but would also reserve capacity of natural gas.
So, it will be cost effective and reduces the energy crises, further it will intelligently perform the operations like “automatic ignition, automatic shut off of gas supply to avoid any hazard incident if gas pressure gets low and automatic switching from gas to electricity in case of when gas wouldn’t come” hence we are moving towards solar energy to design hybrid heater.
This project basically covers three different domains of engineering ;
Firstly, Control system is implemented and simulated using the software "Arduino" and "Proteus respectively". Design is further tested on harware for proper operation, Troubleshooting consumes a lot of time to work properly. It involves many problems e.g burn out of components like LCD, connection not properly connect etc.
After that, hybrid heater design is completed using "Autocad" and brought in hardware form. Finally, solar system is assembled with this whole setup to make this project complete.
