Project Summary

Our analysis suggests that in the next 10 years, 3D printing could affect up to 42 percent of production in industrials, automotive, consumer products, healthcare and medical devices, and aerospace. And we estimate the total economic value that could be onshored using 3DP is at least $600 billion.

3D printing can have a positive impact on the environment: it reduces manufacturing waste, lowers the carbon footprint and supports the circular economy.

3D printing called as desktop fabrication. It is a rapid prototyping process whereby a real object can be created from a 3D design. A 3D printer machine uses a CAD model for rapid prototyping process. Where by a structure is use to create from its 3d model. The 3d design is stored in as a STL format and after that forwarded to the 3D printer. It can use a wide range of materials such as ABS, PLA, and composites as well.3D printing is one kind of rapidly developing and cost optimized form which is used for rapid prototyping. The 3D printer prints the CAD design layer by layer forming a real object. 3D printing process is derived from inkjet desktop printers in which multiple deposit jets and the printing material, layer by layer derived from the CAD 3D data.3D printing is diversifying and accelerating our life, letting various qualities of products to be synthesized easier and faster. 3D printing majorly dealing with the process of Rapid Prototyping & Additive Manufacturing process plays vital role in it. But major obstacle in to this is speed of rapid prototyping machine. Additive Manufacturing: used as a real, scalable manufacturing process, to generate fully functional final components in high-tech materials for low batch, high-value manufacturing. Nowadays, rapid prototyping has a wide range of applications in various fields of human activity: research, engineering, medical industry, military, construction, architecture, fashion, education, the computer industry, and many others. Three-dimensional (3D) printing has the ability to affect the transmission of information in a similar way to earlier technologies such as photocopying. This identifies sources of information about 3D printing, its technology, the necessary software, and applications. In addition to 3D printing, companies can extract and innovate new ideologies and various design replicas without wasting time or tools. Therefore, 3D printing is one of emerging areas in design and manufacturing, enabling reliability of product design and production.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

3D is a very useful technology that offers many benefits to people such as better quality, flexibility, affordability, sustainability, and excellent 3D printing speed. The 3D printer can have three-dimensional models and is not made of paper and ink but uses plastic to print and then create solid 3D object models. The 3D printing coverage is very high, 3D printing is growing rapidly in the industry, and the 3D printer spare parts are also available.

Problems :

1. Speed of the heat bed was operationally less due to its heavy weight design and Inaccuracy in Objects due to speed variation.

2. Overheating of an Extruder.

3. Traditional polymer was sticky and troublesome due to the heating effect applied on it.

4. Time incurred for the overall printing operation was more, which wasn’t feasible.

Improvements :

1. Light weighted heat bed with inclusion of aluminum plate not only ensured rapid movement of the bed but also ensured the elimination of stickiness of the polymer filament. This ensured reduction in operational time by faster moving of the heat bed.

2. Installation of fan on the extruder ensured faster cooling of the polymer filament on the heat bed. This ensured decrease in the operational time by up to 20% with respect to the end to end process of 3D modeling.

3. Usage of Tempered Glass increases the accuracy due to physical Strength and Thermal Resistance. This tends to allow the polymer to adapt critical shapes and avoid stickiness of the product once the printing is finished.

4. Improving Extruder speed to 100 mm/sec.
