Project Summary

Wind tunnels are large tubes with air moving inside.This project is related to the low cost and small scale wind tunnel and its data acquisition system by the help of which we can calculate the different factors of the wind tunnel like air pressure, wind speed and the behaviour of an object to the pressure etc. which will be displayed on screen of desktop or laptop in the form of graphs or numerical values.

The aim of this project is to design and fabricate a low cost small scale wind tunnel which will enable us to study the flow over objects of interest, the forces acting on them and their interaction with the flow.

Project Objectives

The specific advantages are low cost, flexibility in testing, and fast turnaround in the facility allow for a realistic and practical course in wind tunnel testing.

This project will also provide hands on experience for the students on how to use wind tunnel.

The presence  of wind tunnel will bring  many possibilities  to studying and understanding  complex fluid flows and different analysis.

The wind tunnels are used to copy the actions of an object in flight.

We will learn about the instrumentation and data acquisition system and capable to get the different time and different readings of wind tunnel and get information about the condition of wind tunnel related to pressure, temperature and velocity etc.

Project Implementation Method

To change our Idea to a practical shape we will use the different things like body frame, blower, sensors, micro-controllers, and the led display system of desktop or laptop.

The sensor sense the condition of the wind tunnel and send message to microcontroller, then microcontroller will send these informations to the led display where we visualize the desirable results and collect different types of status details related to wind tunnel and if some changes are required, we can do it by adjustment of fan, position of object changing etc.

Benefits of the Project

We can use this for academic purposes.

There are lot of benefits in the aircraft industry, automotive industry, tall building designing etc.

We are unable to design the aformentioned products without the wind tunnel test conduction system. And the wind tunnel results displays is not possible without the data acquisition system so data acquisition system is one of the backbone of the aircraft and automobile industries. so we can say that the aircraft, automobile etc. have great professional benefit which is directly leads to the benefit of the model (wind tunnel).

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

1) Low Cost and Desirable Results
2) Connection of several sensors to get different values related to force, pressure, velocity
3) one to two system of result visualization that is numerically or graphically
4) We can perform different experiments on different shapes of object to get their knowledge related to material and the shape.
5) Helpful in design analysis of moving parts of an object.
6) Helpful to know every point results and every time condition of wind tunnel by simply visualizing the graph condition through which they can make secure their system from damage.
