Project Summary

 Hybrid solar and wind system is one of the portable hybrid systems for home lightening and city lightening to give them reliable and renewable hybrid system on small scale and large scale and provide them renewable hybrid energy system to make people lives in more comfort. A renewable energy management system includes combination of two or more energy sources. This approach is becoming widely acceptable to overcome energy generation problems and to reduce global warming effects.The output of renewable sources is overwhelming and does not have any effect on climate change conditions, this system is proposed in grid tied solar and wind hybrid system, generation and analysis of energy from solar and wind can be successfully demonstrated in MATLAB(SIMULINK).

providing electrical energy for major limitations if the location of such Masses is far away from distribution system of electrical networks or they are facing the lack of electricity from a bulk power system which kept them in difficulty of approaching to their required electrical power. Due to many reasons, these far-flung Masses did not get portable electricity through commercial distribution power system so hybrid solar and wind turbine system is the best infrastructure to provide them clean and free energy source, so this hybrid system fully has comfort infrastructure which will keep them in well-being from electricity difficulties.

The combination of renewable energy sources, wind & solar are used for generating power called as wind solar hybrid system. This system is designed using the solar panels and small wind turbines generators for generating electricity.

It mainly consists of controllers and battery bank; an Inverter is installed to convert Dc to AC which is useful for household AC loads. This single-phase load helps the underprivileged houses.

Project Objectives

  • To study the hybrid wind and solar energy generation mechanism.
  • ·To design a hybrid energy generation system using MATLAB.
  • ·To develop a cost-effective hardware-based hybrid energy generation system.

Project Implementation Method

  • The system mainly consists of PV array, wind turbine (WT), battery bank, inverter (aka converter), controller, and other accessory devices and distribution cables. The DC power output from the PV array and WT is converted into AC by the inverter to directly supply the base load, while available excess energy is fed into the battery bank.
  • When the battery bank is fully charged, the surplus energy is dumped if there is no more energy demand. The battery bank releases power to the load when the renewable energy output is unavailable or is insufficient to supply the load.
  • There are two types of charge controllers MPPT and PWM. MPPT has high efficiency and is expensive than PWM control strategy. According to environmental condition, the characteristics of solar photovoltaic module is nonlinear in nature. Tracing of Maximum Power point is held by use of Maximum Power Point Tracing Algorithm (MPPT) to get Maximum efficiency from a Photovoltaic module.

Benefits of the Project

Whenever we choose solar energy power system, we consider only two options. First is on-grid and second is off-grid solar energy system. Both these systems are helpful to you in times when you have ample of sunlight. As soon as the sun is less bright, in night or in rainy seasons, these systems are not helpful and you will need other energy options.

The solution to this problem is the hybrid solar energy systems. Generally, the hybrid solar systems are the systems combining two renewable energy sourses of energy, like solar and wind. Then, energy is generated through solar on sunny days and when there is limited sunshine but there is wind, energy can be generated through it. However, recently hybrid solar energy systems have changed their configuration. Now, they are often solar energy systems connected to batteries to store the energy that was generated.

1. Continuous power supply – The hybrid solar systems provide power continuously, without any interruption, as the batteries connected to them store the energy. So, when there is an electricity outage, the batteries work as inverter to provide you backup. This is also the case during the evening or night time when there is no sun and energy is not being generated; batteries provide the back-up and life goes on without any interruption.

2. Utilize the renewable sources in best way – Because the batteries are connected to the system to store the energy, there is no waste of the excess energy generated on bright sunny days. So, these systems make use of the renewable energy in best way, storing energy on a good day and utilize the stored power on a bad day. The balance is maintained.

3. Low maintenance cost – The maintenance cost of the hybrid solar energy systems is low as compared to the traditional generators which use diesel as fuel. No fuel is used and they do not require frequent servicing.

4. High efficiency – The hybrid solar energy systems work more efficiently than your traditional generators which waste the fuel under certain conditions. Hybrid solar systems work efficiently in all types of conditions without wasting the fuel.

5. Load management – Unlike traditional generators, which provide high power as soon as they turned on, most of hybrid solar power systems manage load accordingly. A hybrid solar system may have technology that adjusts the energy supply according to the devices they are connected to, whether it’s an air conditioner requiring high power or a fan which requires less.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • The system mainly consists of PV array, wind turbine (WT), battery bank, inverter (Dc to Ac converter), charge controller, and other accessory devices and distribution cables.   • First to build this project in hard we need to design it in soft, To Design this project in soft, MATLAB Simulink is the best software. For the designing of this project same components need to create such as PV array, Wind Turbine, charge controller, battery bank, inverter and an AC load.
  • After Simulation in soft, the project has to be designed in hard, PV array and wind turbine is producing energy which will transfer towards charge controller, charge controller is used to control the charge, after that it will transfer towards battery bank which actually store the charge and then we can take an DC load form the battery, furthermore an Inverter is installed which converts DC to AC.
  • In last an AC load will be installed which would utilizes the energy generated from this hybrid solar and wind generation.
