DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF TITANIUM CLAW FOR EOD SAVIOR ROBOT
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryThe project includes design and fabrication of titanium claw for indigeneously made EOD savior robot Warrior. This robot is capable of lifting and disposing IEDs without posing any threat to human's life. As IEDs come in different shapes and sizes the design of claw of this robot poses certain limit in grasping of IEDs. Moreover, the claw is made of stainless steel which will break if somehow IED explodes. So, a claw with a better design and a better material (i-e Titanium) which may withstand the IED explosion will be made and faricated in this project.
Project ObjectivesProject objectives are as follows:
Better design of claw to lift and handle IEDs more firmly
Better material of claw which can withstan IED explosion
Installment of fabricated claw on EOD robot Warrior.
Project Implementation MethodProject implementation will be
Design of claw on solid works Software
Analysis of claw on ANSYS Software
Fabrication of claw
Benefits of the ProjectIt goes without saying that the threat to life cannot be given monetary value; the purpose of the titanium robot manipulator claw is to collect improvised explosive devices which are often electronically controlled. Such devices include those equipped with motion sensors, vibration trigger mechanisms as well as those detonated by pressure and weight thresholds or trip wires. These devices are anti-personnel and have historically proven to have tragic consequences in injuries as well as deaths.
The frequency of detonation of such explosives is ever so increasing especially with the recent escalation of hostile relations with bordering countries. The requirement of robots which can better withstand explosions with minimal damage is therefore evident instead of the investment of resources in purchasing new ones. The use of titanium instead of stainless steel is aimed at improving such capabilities of the IED collector. Moreover, titanium, having significant strength advantage over steel will be able to lift heavier explosives intended to cause larger scale damages. Heavier explosives would otherwise be required to be gripped and lifted using manually operated machines, again posing a threat to life as well as machinery
