Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryIn this project a MPPT method is proposed for detecting the partial shading on PV arrays and obtaining the Global Maximum Power Point GMPP. The performance of the proposed MPPT controller is compared with P&O and INC control methods using PowerSIM. The results show that the proposed method is simple and it detects the occurrence of partial shading and finds the GMPP among the other methods within short time. The other two methods fails to find the GMPP and puts out lower power than the power output of the proposed method during shading conditions. So the proposed method is a fast and highly efficient MPPT method.
Solar PV cannot provide such uniform irradiation uniformly since, sometimes weather conditions are changed like passing through fog and cloudy days. Project ObjectivesThe objective of this project is to study the difference between the working of a PWM and MPPT chargers for solar systems available in the market. Later, built a customised modular MPPT charger applicable in solar systems that are subjected to gradually increase the power production in future.
The research is based around the study of currently available solar chargers. The most common of which are PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) chargers.The testes will be based around the comparison of performance between three units two of which are the pre made PWM and MPPT chargers that are already available in the market and the third one is our custom built MPPT charging unit. For the testing purpose we are going to use a REC 325 watts polycrystalline solar panel. The panel offers 120 half cut cells arranged in two halves to offer optimum performance surveys during the shade being imposed on either half of the panel.Three junction boxes are provided on the rear end of the panel which can be used for two separate 18v outputs, this will help us to compare the two charger’s performance in real time under the exact same conditions.
