Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject SummaryA patient monitor or vital parameter monitor is a device to continuous monitor the vital signs of the human body. The most basic vital parameters of the human body includes Electrocardiogram (ECG), Pulse Oximetry (SpO2), Blood Pressure (BP) and temperature. In the current situation of COVID-19 in worldwide hence the development of more portable medical equipment is necessary. Hence nowadays available equipment needs to be more manageable. Patient monitor in the hospital cannot be available to every patient because of its bulkiness and large size therefore we aim to make patient monitor more miniaturized to a more hand held device. In this project, the vital parameters for patient monitor device includes Electrocardiogram (ECG), Pulse Oximetry (SpO2), Blood Pressure (BP) and temperature. The device will be able to record data from the human body and interface to PC via Arduino microcontroller. The recorded data can be viewed as a historical file or can be archived for further analysis. The LCD will display the waveforms and the measured values. The following figure shows the block diagram paradigm of the device.

The aim of this project is to make the patient monitor miniaturized and portable. The objective of project includes the design and development of the following:
- ECG (Electrocardiogram)
- SpO2 ( Proximal Oxygen concentration)
- Blood pressure measurement system
- Temperature
- Simulation of the parameters
- Selection of Electronic components
- Designing of Electrocardiogram (ECG), Proximal Oxygen concentration (SpO2), blood pressure system and temperature
- Assembly of the equipment
- Fabrication
- Testing
The project benefit includes the following.
- This project is aimed towards eventually lowering the hospital loads during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this project, a vital parameter miniaturized patient monitor device will be designed and developed with user-friendly GUI (graphical user interface). The vital parameters for patient monitor device includes Electrocardiogram (ECG), Pulse Oximetry (SpO2), Blood Pressure (BP) and temperature. The ECG records the electrical activity of heart. The pulse Oximetry measure the oxygen level (oxygen saturation) of the blood. Blood pressure measures how hard the blood is pushing against the walls of the arteries. The temperature sensor measures the body fever. The pulse Oximetry ranges from 0 to 100%, Blood pressure ranges from 0 to 250 mm/Hg and Temperature ranges from 0 to 120 °F. The device will be able to record data from the human body and interface to PC via Arduino microcontroller. The recorded data can be viewed as a historical file or can be archived for further analysis. The LCD will display the waveforms and the measured values.
