This project proposes an additional contactless braking system that will act as a secondary retarder for automobiles and it does not suffer from brake fade problems of friction brakes. This Magnetic Braking system is a contactless braking system that is based on eddy currents. A relative motion between conductor and a magnetic field produces a retardation effect and slows the relative motion. Our project will design the system for a specific vehicle.

Project Objectives

This project proposes an additional contactless braking system that will act as a secondary retarder for automobiles and it does not suffer from brake fade problems of friction brakes. Thus this will not only improve the safety of vehicles and its passengers but also increase life of existing braking systems of automobiles.

Project Implementation Method

Our system will be implemented with vehicle's existing braking system. When brakes will be applied, first Magnetic braking system will slow down the vehicle by dissipating energy in form of heat generated by eddy currents and then the friction brakes will stop it to a stand still.

Benefits of the Project

This system will act as a secondary retarder for automobiles. This will not only improve the safety of vehicles and its passengers but also increase life of existing braking systems of automobiles. Thus it will hopefully reduce number of accidents of automobiles.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This projects will be done on software tools in its initial stage. The manufacturing phase is dependent on the situation of studies either being in face to face mode or distance learning mode.
