Design and Development of Bullet Resistant Protective Sheet for Armored Vehicles
Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryAnalysis of existing materials and techniques used in armor design and development of an effective, lightweight, bullet-proof ballistic armor for Light Armored Vehicles against rifle rounds.
Project ObjectivesTo develop a lightweight armor for vehicles which is capable of stopping a standard marksman rifle round without compromising the mobility and functionality of the vehicle.
Project Implementation MethodThe methodology of the project is as follows:
- Understanding fracture mechanics and concepts essential for armor design
- Study and selection of appropriate material for armor
- Development of armor design with selected material
- Simulation to check the effectiveness of proposed design
Human life is of utmost important to any country. This project aims at providing armor protection against maximum threat levels for rifles (including high-powered long-range rifles as well). Be it in the extraction of soldiers or VIPs under heavy enemy fire, or for general protection routine of HVIs, vehicle with this armor paneling will be able to get the job done with minimum personnel damage. This armor can also be used for reinforcing guard posts, as well as development of bullet-proof rostrums.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableDevelopment of armor against the BR6 threat level of the EN1063 & EN1522 armor standards. These correspond to 7.62x51 mm bullet fired at a speed of 830 m/s. The armor needs to be designed with lightweight and cost-effective materials such as composites and ceramics.
