Cooperative Payload Delivery Using Multiple Quadrotor Drones
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryThe project focuses on usage of multiple drones to carry a sling (attached through wire like material for eg, fishing line, etc.) payload and deliver it autonomously, to a specified location. Due to financial restrictions we will use just two drones. A cooperative control algorithm is to be devised using already existing dynamic equations of motion and that algorithm is to be applied through QGround control alongwith the flight path from the ground station to the drones. The drones will then execute the algorithm to reach and hover over the delivery location and drop-off the payload.
Project ObjectivesThe project aims to achieve,
- A cooperative control algorithm for autonomous flight of multiple drones.
- Execution of the algorithm on a working model.
The project will be done in following steps,
- Chosing the right dynamic equations of motion from existing research available.
- Developing a dynamic model using the equations.
- Devising a control algorithm based on the dynamic model.
- Using a laptop as ground station to feed flight path to both drones as well as correcting the flight path in real time by feeding initial values to the algorithm and getting the corrected values for coordinates, etc.
- Finally the drop-off, using servomotors each drone will release the fishing line from the point of attachment simultaneously.
The project can prove evolutionary in drone-delivery sector as instead of using different-sized drones for differently weighed packages, the distributor can have a swarm with any number of drones to lift and deliver a package. This increaeses the end-user's usage-flexibility by manifold. Also, certain packages for eg, food supplies for relief, etc which are deemed too heavy even for the lagest single drone to carry, multiple drones make it possible to lift such packages together.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final deliverable will be a system of two drones with a payload attach and release mechanism and Ground station software i.e,QGround Control getting coordinate-correction in real time through the cooperative control algorithm running in Simulink.
