Project Summary

As the bulk of electricity cannot be stored it has to be generated, transmitted, distributed and utilized instantly. So it has become a problem for the generation side to fulfill the demands of the utilization, when peak load is there. But to fulfill the demands and to satisfy the customers more generators or plants have to be installed which leads to increase in greenhouse effect and environmental pollution. Likewise tariff rates are also increased. Which makes consumption and electricity cost expensive. To deal and solve this problem smart grids have come up with an idea of demand side management technique in which system logically chooses best combination of loads during peak hour and off peak. However, an algorithm is developed which specify the loads by checking best possible combinations. Moreover, this research is about n number of loads and by the help of logical language (XOR and OR) combinations are made which gives customers more options and wide area of choices to operate loads according to their demand.

Project Objectives

1) Best possible outcome of loads that have to be operated

2) Reduction in CO2 emission (greenhouse effect)

3) Reduction in peak time load

4) Overall reduction in the electricity bills

Project Implementation Method

To validate the proposed idea, smart home prototype is made and a  program is developed in python language by the help of heuristic technique, system is implemented and program is burnt into raspberry pi 4. However, 12 contrasting loads are chosen and they are powered by AC source. Moreover, relays are used for bridging between loads and raspberry pi. According to the program best possible combinations of loads are made which makes system efficient.

Benefits of the Project

Reduxrion in electricity bills will have an effect on the overall prices of the goods and in turn the overall economy.

As the system will work efficiently there would be less power generation required.

Reduction in greenhouse effect. 

User convenience as system will be automated. (Automatic load shifting)

Reduction in load shedding

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Prototype of smart home in which load shifting will be shown.

Different modules, relays, switches, microprocessor is used to implement the prototype.

12 different loads are used which will operate and managed by the algorithm burnt in raspberry pi.
