The most common and useful way of communication among human is speech but a large number of population in the world suffer from hearing/speech disability. So, there is a huge communication gap between these disabled and normal people. To overcome this gap, we will use sign language. AWAAZ will be a simple application providing communication facility between deaf and dumb and a normal person. AWAAZ aims for establishing communication between the normal and the deaf and dumb people and aims to lower this barrier in communication.
For data collection we will use a dictionary Pakistan sign language (PSL), this books covers signs for Urdu and English alphabets. Milestones are speech recognition, data development, tokenization, comparing, and output display in sign language. We have completed speech recognition. We have worked on interfaces of our project that includes login of user, registration of the user and we worked on speech recognition of Urdu language (Roman) that is shown in the form of text.
The main objective of our application would be to provide speech to PSL (Pakistani Sign Language) conversion. It will also convert the voice to text and text to voice using sign language keyboard. Our Future Work includes Dataset Development, Comparison of words with Sign language, Displaying Output (Sign language).
AWAAZ aims for establishing communication between the normal and the dumb people and aims to lower this barrier in communication. This application will include all the features that are the needs for the people who are dumb. Using this application dumb people can communicate and share their experience with others. This will be very beneficial for the deaf as well as for normal people to forward there messages and information
Our project is divided into multiple smaller units i.e. milestones. These milestones of the project are speech recognition, data development, tokenization, comparing, and output display in sign language. For data collection we will use a dictionary Pakistan sign language (PSL), this books covers signs for Urdu and English alphabets. We have currently completed the speech recognition component. We also have completed the work of data development. We have almost completed the tokenization process and currently working on algorithm of matching the speech input to image data.
It will help the deaf and dumb people in communicating with normal people. They will be able to purchase items in grocery shop while using our application. One of the most important feature of our application is that deaf and dumb people are going to use speech and text as input and display image sequencing as output.
We are using Visual Studio Codes tool for implementing our project. Visual Studio Code is a source-code editor developed by Microsoft for Windows, Linux and macOS. It includes support for debugging, embedded Git control and GitHub, syntax highlighting, intelligent code completion, snippets, and code refactoring.
The programming language used by us is Python. Python is an interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language.
The SQLite database is used for saving the images. SQLite is a relational database management system contained in a C library. In contrast to many other database management systems, SQLite is not a client–server database engine.
We are using agile methodology because our goal is clear but our solution is not clear. We break our solution (deliverables) into chunks and now are working on them.
