Automation is rapidly growing in the presenttechnology. So automation plays a vital role in theagricultural field which is helpful for the farmers. Inthe earlier days, the grass cutters were used manuallyhandheld devices. Because of this, there was pollutionand loss of energy as they used gas and petrolengines. Manual grass cutter is time consuming also. So the old grass cutters need to be replacedby automated ones, where the system is aimed at developingan autonomous solar grass cutter embedded with height adjustment, obstacle avoidance and path planningmechanisms. The autonomous solar grass cutter utilizes energy from the sun via photovoltaic panel tocharge the battery for continuous performance of the solar grass cutter. Height adjustment technique is used to cut the grass on same level which look good. The obstacle avoidance and pathplanning for area covering of the solar grass cutter were achieved using image processing techniques. The efficiency evaluation of the machine is based on the primary setobjectives of obstacle avoidance and path planning in terms of area coverage, energy consumption and machine intervention.

Environmental Impacts:

Developing the autonomous solar based grass cutter emits a number of harmful toxic pollutants into air, including carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides and hydrocarbons etc.

Image processing is a method to perform some operations on an image, in order to get an enhanced image or to extract some useful information from it. It is a type of signal processing in which input is an image and output may be image or characteristics/features associated with that image.

Motion planning, also path planning (also known as the navigation problem or the piano mover's problem) is a computational problem to find a sequence of valid configurations that moves the object from the source to destination.

Height adjustment is most often achieved by air or oil compression used for the "springs" of the vehicle – when the pressure is varied – the vehicle body rises or lowers.
