Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe main concern for our project is to automate the weft thread mechanism of handloom.
This can be done by placing two electromagnets (solenoid) that will generate an Electromotive force to move the wooden piece (shuttle) across the (? 4 feet) lay. Solenoid coil will be designed according to the weight of the shuttle i.e. the force required to move it and length of the lay.
Using sensors, we will be determining the position of shuttle on the lay. This mechanism can be fully automated using time delays but we will make it semi-automatic i.e. by using a push button.
Automating handloom’s shuttle module to save time and increase productivity by reducing the manual work of beating shuttle.
Project Implementation MethodEmploying hardware and PCB circuitry to automate the shuttle timing and motion that will make picking (insertion of shuttle between longitudinal threads) process less laborious.
Benefits of the Project• To automate handloom’s shuttle in order to help the small scale textile industry of Pakistan.
• To reduce the work of beating the shuttle.
• To synchronize the timing of picking and shedding.
The previously hand operated shuttle picking in R&D lab of IST will now allow the shuttle to move across the (? 4 feet) lay, on the push of a button after sensing its current position.
