Augmented and Virtual Reality

Project Summary

We are working on Augmented and Virtual Reality in Education. The project will help students to learn in a new way about different parts of computer. Initially the focus is on most important parts/accessories i.e Motherboard and devices attached on it. Student can visualize motherboard in 3d and get information of its important parts like RAM, HeatSink, Graphic Card, Processor Chip etc.

Through the designed application students can easily be trained about assembling of these parts on motherboard like where and how the RAM should be fixed on a motherboard. Further it will give knowledge about how other components like: Hard drive, CDROM, Power supply assembles in processor.

"To visualize assembling of every single part of processor in 3D" is the main purpose of our application.

We will develop device based application so that end user can get knowledge about how the parts (like hard drives, RAM, motherboard) assemble inside processing unit.
End user also gets training about how to overcome the problems while assembling the parts of processing unit.
This application also give information about the internal architecture of parts of Processing Unit (like hard drives , Buses etc ).

Project Objectives

The main objective is to change the conventional teaching method i.e book reading and visualize pictures. To train students through limited hardware devices and of course expensive, it is always not possible to explain comprehensively to each student.

We develop 3D  VR/AR applications for learning experience with feeling real environment. By these developed applications  the learning and interest of the  students will exponentially be increased, as they will be able to closely visualize every components of computer.

This application also gives information about the internal architecture of parts of Processing Unit (like hard drives, Buses etc.)

Project Implementation Method

We are using Vuforia SDK for building our application in unity.

Vuforia is a Software Development Kit (SDK) for creating AR apps. It uses Computer Vision to track images and 3D objects in real time. This allows putting virtual 3D objects in relation to real-world objects at the camera screen.

Unity provides  Interactive objects , UI, animations, and C# scripting for AR application.

Using Unity engine we are animating 3D model of different components of computer to show their assembling in PC and for scripts we have used visual studio.

we want to take this project in virtual reality , because VR will provide a great learning experience for students. But for VR we need HTC VIVE , The HTC Vive is a virtual reality headset  the headset uses room scale tracking technology, allowing the user to move in 3D space and use motion-tracked handheld controllers to interact with the environment.

Benefits of the Project

The interactive models provided students access to increased and improved learning activities. These models enhance and improve educational and learning interactive activities for students and student can learn the internal architecture of computer by visualizing in 3d.  They can interact with computer hardware without even opening the real computer. The students may have the incomparable experience by using VR headset htc vive and they can view and assemble components of motherboard like never before.

It definitely makes everything more visual and attractive for learners. Reading about the parts of the computer hardware may not be exactly interesting, but watching how it works through AR/VR can be much more appealing.

Furthermore, it will enhance our chance to get jobs as it will surely raise a question mark in the eye of the interviewer when they ask regarding the equipment we used in our project.
